Although Donald Trump is trying to re-invent himself as a conservative for a possible bid for president in 2012, reminders of his prior support for Democrats and big government polices keep adding up. The latest: The Donald supported the auto bailout in 2008.
I think the government should stand behind them 100 percent, Trump told Fox News Neil Cavuto nearly three years ago. You cannot lose the auto companies. Theyre great. They make wonderful products.
Faced with crushing debts caused by poor management and high labor costs, GM and Chrysler requested federal assistance to keep the firms afloat, and were granted a $25 billion loan in the fall of 2008. President George Bush then secured more than $17 billion for the companies.
This occurred months before the birth of the Tea Party, but conservatives were outraged.
Not Trump. A longtime advocate of sweetheart deals between corporation and state, the real-estate developer went all in for the deal.
[Y]ou have to try and save the companies, Trump said in a separate 2008 Fox News interview. And I think you can easily save the companies.
The Club for Growth, a free-market advocacy group that opposed the bailouts, blasted out a statement Wednesday knocking Trump for his support for bailouts over bankruptcy, and cited that the real-estate mogul had succesfully filed for bankruptcy himself four times in the past 20 years.
If theres anyone who should know the value of filing for bankruptcy, its Donald Trump. He should have known that the $13.4 billion government bailout of the auto industry just put off the inevitable while putting taxpayers at risk, said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. Bailouts and nationalizing whole industries can cripple free markets and has hampered our economic recovery. We need our next President to understand that economic freedom leads to growth and prosperity for all, and that the government should never be in the business of picking winners and losers.
And Americans have had it with the useless, feckless, worthless, pointless, lying GOP, and from what I can see, none of its standard candidates have a snow balls chance in Hell of becoming president, and it wouldnt matter if they did become president anyway.
Trump is not ahead because he is a conservative, he is ahead because he is showing balls. I hope in the long run, Trump’s excitement will land on Ted Cruz.
The article could just as easily be :
“Liberal? Trump supports tougher immigration enforcement.”
The search for ideological purity is a trip down a rabbit hole.
I’m aware that he’s not going to be completely conservative. I’m not delusional... but he’s saying what I think and what I want to hear...
Now...here’s the rub.
I voted for Jesse Ventura for the same thing (and suffer[ed] the indignity of it)... let’s be careful here.
That pretty much sums it up Mr. Will
Incorrect. You will be deemed a troll only if you have the behaviors and demeanor of a troll.
Nick and Geron differ with me (perhaps) about Trump. Yet I do not identify either of them as trolls, nor do I petition for their removal as harmful to the forum.
Why is that, I wonder? Is it because their demeanor is better than yours?
It is because they do not post with an aggressively combative and vitriolic nature, nor do they employ excessive mockery.
and people give me sh-t when I mention he’s pro union thug.....that’s what the entire auto bail out was about.
“I cant tell you if Trump is lying or not, but I can tell you that the GOP and its candidates are lying, because that is all they ever do.”
Yo noticed, eh ?
I DON”T CARE, Only he has the guts to tell the truth like this:
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump Twitter 6, Nov 2012:
The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.
Those darn chi-coms invent everything these days, even global warming, er its global cooling now, er (what is it like outside now??), I know, climate change,
This is just one of many issues, though...not just one issue.
And purity WAS, at one time, what most FREEPERS demanded of their candidates.
He is fast to reply to posts complimenting Trump but has not answered your post. We’ll see how long it takes. lol
What is irrelevant? That his kool aid drinkers have not yet figured out how many liberal impulses he has? I don’t think so. What’s irrelevant are polls at this time of a four year cycle. TOTALLY
I know, we have established that you are hyper sensitive. I guess I won’t ask you to think on this thread anymore...
Trump is an egotistical self serving egotist who would sell his soul for a buck. In that regard, he has supported many Democrat candidates and causes over the years as long as it fits his profit objectives. he is nothing more than a Carnival showman out for publicity.
false choice, the first admission one has a very weak intellectual case...
[BUT almost none of the politicians are smart enough]
