Although Donald Trump is trying to re-invent himself as a conservative for a possible bid for president in 2012, reminders of his prior support for Democrats and big government polices keep adding up. The latest: The Donald supported the auto bailout in 2008.
I think the government should stand behind them 100 percent, Trump told Fox News Neil Cavuto nearly three years ago. You cannot lose the auto companies. Theyre great. They make wonderful products.
Faced with crushing debts caused by poor management and high labor costs, GM and Chrysler requested federal assistance to keep the firms afloat, and were granted a $25 billion loan in the fall of 2008. President George Bush then secured more than $17 billion for the companies.
This occurred months before the birth of the Tea Party, but conservatives were outraged.
Not Trump. A longtime advocate of sweetheart deals between corporation and state, the real-estate developer went all in for the deal.
[Y]ou have to try and save the companies, Trump said in a separate 2008 Fox News interview. And I think you can easily save the companies.
The Club for Growth, a free-market advocacy group that opposed the bailouts, blasted out a statement Wednesday knocking Trump for his support for bailouts over bankruptcy, and cited that the real-estate mogul had succesfully filed for bankruptcy himself four times in the past 20 years.
If theres anyone who should know the value of filing for bankruptcy, its Donald Trump. He should have known that the $13.4 billion government bailout of the auto industry just put off the inevitable while putting taxpayers at risk, said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. Bailouts and nationalizing whole industries can cripple free markets and has hampered our economic recovery. We need our next President to understand that economic freedom leads to growth and prosperity for all, and that the government should never be in the business of picking winners and losers.
A+
Mexico pretty much “disappears” their illegals, right?
Yeah....
Yeah. Interesting.
I know Mexico has been known to kill repeat border jumpers. Total political corruption, and we let them have whatever they want in regards to immigration and commerce. They are our enemy in every respect.
GD right they are!!!
he’s a tough talker...big deal.
Usually “tough talk” as the new #1 character trait to be elected POTUS whether conservative or not, I think Bob Knight as about the same “tough talk” as Donald Trump. So let’s vote Bob Knight for Pres!

The problem with this assertion is that ALL of the Republican candidates talked tough in 2014...
So, do you still want to keep that assertion?
I hear you.
I am just as frustrated with this whole Trump garbage as everyone else who still believes that a truly conservative POTUS is the only answer to get the country back from the brink, and the only person I trust to handle this enormous task is Ted Cruz.
I remember when Scott Brown won in MA and I was like this guy’s gonna be a RINO and people here were like “Don’t be a Debbie-Downer”. But he turned out to be a RINO.
I cannot believe the number of people that have been duped by Trump. Just because the GOPe doesn’t like him. That doesn’t mean Trump is on our side. Trump vrs the GOPe is like two oversized egos battling for power and influence. I see why the GOPe hates Trump and vice-versa. Trump isn’t out there for the little guy, he’s out there Trump. And if this loser makes it into the WH, it will be less than 100 days before people start having buyers remorse and pretending they didn’t take part in this fiasco.
All Trump’s “poll” numbers show is that conservatives can control the primary if they want, and if that really is the case, there is no reason we shouldn’t select the most conservative candidate that can win: Ted Cruz.
Man, I hope you’re right, for the sake of true conservatism.
