President Obama is said to feel liberated, in the sense that he can finally say what, and do as, he pleases

I believe it too. He’s got Chicago billionaires paying for his Hawaaian home to be built, etc. His wife was already wheeling and dealing before they left Chicago.
VDH always has thoughtful things to say, but I have to say that once every 7 or 8 articles, I think he becomes trapped in his own intellectual compulsion to intellectually intellectualize. You can see it in his articles about Fresno, where he lives, and how genteel he describes the ideas that nothing of value can be left outside, otherwise it’ll get stolen, and how folks dump vanloads of crap by the sides of roads all over the place. These are unequivocably crappy things that go on that he is rather lightweight about. But anyway. He’s like a Ferrari mechanic in a white coat looking at a 3-quad-carburetor ‘62 Dodge 440 engine. He looks down on it. At some level, a guy like VDH cannot handle an objective description of a Donald Trump. The two of them just come from different universes. That said, I appreciate them both.
Great essay by David!
But he confuses Trumps REAL persona with Obama’s MEDIA persona. Obama can say and do whatever he wants only because the media let him.
However Trump can say and do whatever he wants in spite of the media’s fervent opposition.
That’s two very different things.
I saw this article and chose not to post because of my complete disagreement with his broad point. Sure, there are some parallels between Trump and 0bama, but you have to be intentionally blind to not also highlight the EXTREME and CRITICAL differences.
For one, Donald Trump believes in capitalism over socialism. 0 doesn't. Donald Trump loves the USA. 0 doesn't. There are plenty more but these are definitive.
VDH has consistently given 0 the benefit of the doubt around the motivation for his policies, thinking him just naive or simply wrong-headed. It is wholly undeserved
And Donald Trump, for all of his personal flaws, deserves so much better than this poor, overly simplified Establishment tripe.
Ditto. And I am a big VDH fan.
“We can’t kill this guy! Let’s keep throwing crap against the wall in case something sticks!”
He is deathly wrong here. They are psychologically complete opposite.
Obama is a deeply insecure person at his core. He was never wanted by his dad. His mom got rid of him at around age 6. His grandmother was gone all day and his grandpa was a loser drunk guy who turned him over to a commie pedophile at age 10. Obama was black but everyone around him was white or asian. Where did he fit in? He ended up with a burning desire to be not just black but Super Black, and beloved and more important than anyone. He is soft, craving drugs and cheap gay sex all the time. He has no morals or convictions that don’t involve him being seen as great. He has done nothing himself of any value so still is arrogant and empty. He is not interested in the “little people.”
Donald Trump was beloved by his parents, who tried to prepare him for success. He worked hard at his education and success. When he was really hot for someone he often married them , and set them up for life. When he failed, he learned, and did better thereafter. He has deep morals and convictions and speaks them without shame. He isn’t empty and needy inside, seeking desperate approval. He has a large ego, thinks well of himself, but can back it up with actual achievement. He treats his maids with the same interest and curiosity as he does another famous person at a dinner party,
These men both have a degree of arrogance but it comes from such a different place. Put them both in a room with someone “average” who drops a pile of papers. Trump will bend down and help him pick them up. Obama will not.
The Trump Flavor-Aid is strong stuff.
Just a brilliant move by Trump. What will the Establishment do now?
Agreed!
Yep.
Obama’s persona is created only with the media’s help and Trump’s persona exists despite the media’s antagonism.
Such are two very different people.
If Trump doesn’t continue on and actually bring to fruition the things that we’ve begun conversing about; once Trump would be gone, the “conversation” would die away and peter out within a week, a la Benghazi, the IRS scandals, any real action on illegal aliens, closing the border, cleaning up the VA, etc., etc. Those things died away quickly when they were fresh. By this time, without Trump raising cain and hammering on them, they’re ancient history.
I think Trump is the only one with the chops to actually CHANGE things. Absent Trump, politics as usual will prevail and the ever-present inertia will grind things to a halt.
Why is Trump the only one to stop the cheap labor express, and correct all the other things that we all dislike so much? Because Trump is the only ony that is not beholden to anybody but God. Even my Number 2 choice, Cruz is in jeopardy.
You may rest assured that those who contributed those $$$$Millions to Cruz will be making it plain just how he must conform to their desires, or not receive any future support when he runs for reelection. THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH!
The self-absorbed idea of Trump outfoxing a Chinese kleptocrat is similar to that of Obama hypnotizing an Iranian theocrat.
Donald Trump believes he can oversell America abroad in the manner of Chamber of Commerce boosterism; isnt that the twin to Obama underselling the country in the fashion of a wrinkled-browed academic? Both are stern moralists: America is too often shorted, and so Trump is angry over the sins of omission. For Obama, past genocide, racism, and imperialism vie as sins of U.S. commission.
Would a Trump bragging tour be all that much different from an Obama apology tour?
I’ll put Trump’s ability to deal with the ChiComs, Iran or any other foreign country, over 0bomba’s.
Comparing Trump’s love of country to 0’s disdain for this nation is beyond comprehensible.
Lastly, to your “Would a Trump bragging tour be all that much different from an Obama apology tour?” question....
A resounding YES!
I did not, thank you. Very savvy move.
I am a big fan of VDH but he missed it with this article. Trump is not the negro community organizer from Chicago. The negro community organizer by his actions has hopefully called out effective opposition. While I would not vote for Trump in the primaries I think he is saying what needs to be said. Indeed, he has not gone far enough.
Obama sat for twenty years in a church pew, where the Pastor preached hatred for America. Obama's whole adult life, has been spent in attacks of one sort or another on the American tradition. Obama has done everything he could to promote animosity between the races; to smear & belittle the achievements of the mainstream Americans; to undermine American communities; to preach envy & resentment, rather than personal responsibility & emulation of good work.
No one has ever suggested that Donald Trump does not love America; that Donald Trump did not take personal responsibility for his own actions; that Donald Trump ever spent his time, trying to disrupt the social cohesion or dynamic productivity of anyone.
The writer's motives are not completely clear, unless he seeks to curry favor with those who do not have the courage or will to challenge the facts that Trump has thrown into the political discussion. If this is the best that he can do in trying to smear Donald Trump? He needs to find another line of work.
Pathetic drivel!
The headline is a little misleading. He kind of says their views are opposite but their personalities and actions are similar. This is pretty easy to disprove. To start with Obama is lazy pot smoking slacker who was brought up an America hating communist who has no real accomplishments other than getting elected by a bunch of gullible fools. Say what you will about Donald Trump but he is a competitive go-getter who believes in America. Do we agree with everything Mr. Trump does, says and believes?Definitely not. Do we think he would be a better alternative than the one of the socialist idiots the democrats will most likely pick in the primaries? Without a doubt!
corporate welfare is a term used by the left. People that work are not on welfare, they pay for welfare. See the difference, one works, the other is a slothful parasite.
