Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has been the target of much criticism, most recently for inflammatory remarks he made about Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., at a forum Saturday in Ames, Iowa, hosted by pollster Frank Luntz.
Speaking by phone Monday on NBCs Today, Trump reiterated to host Matt Lauer that hes not a fan of John McCain, asserting that hes done a terrible job for the vets. The Today host steered Trump from McCains record to Saturdays comments:

Big daddy has no sugar daddy’s to answer to. So he can be his own man.
Lauer is a piece of feces. Sadly, several FReepers (you know whom you are) side with him. That makes you pieces of feces, too.
that was worth a giggle !
Well I hope I was wrong yesterday thinking that he was toast looks like he’s going to survive and maybe even win.
Trump laid into him with both fists. This guy is a scrapper, a fighter, and I’m loving it. He is showing the American people what a real leader looks and sounds like. Yeah, he is a little rough around the edges, but, I think that’s just who he is - and dare I say - part of his charm.
Trump beat him to a pulp.
Matt tried to go with a slanted presentation, and Trump would have none of it.
I hadn’t realized he said McCain was a war hero. Evidently he said it four times. Sheryl Atkinson pointed it out.

THIS could be Trump's greatest contribution to the cause. When Trump treats reporters like this, he EXPOSES them. The people who trust the media might say to themselves, "hey, what's going on here? Could Trump have a point about Matt?"
I agree with your take on it.
It’s almost like Trump is the political EMP device that is short circuiting the Leftist machine.
If you look what was on the table for discussion two weeks ago vs now, you realize Trump has exploded the number of pertinent issues.
Whatever else this election cycle is going to be, it’s not going to be business as usual.
Can't say I disagree, but would add, he is also pulling the mask off the DC establishment. The MSM has been as negligent in reporting on the VA scandal as the politicians have been in ignoring it.
The surge in Trumps polling represents eyes opening to the reality that the political establishment and media have been conspiring to keep the public blind to a number of realties.
The gaggle of sign-waving morons behind Matt Lauer gives him (and NBC) such an air of authority and respectability.
“Lauer is a piece of feces.”
No, he is a huge anal wart and a real pain in the ass.
I absolutely love how Trump does not back down!
Mercy, he is a breath of fresh air!
Matt Lauer is a silly man ......have you noticed how many times he cross dresses on the Today show....usually Holloween.....he’s a Holloweenie, LOL
One refreshing thing about The Donald is that he’s not a wimpy politically-correct mealy-mouth brow-beaten apologetic politician like most of them. He fights back rather than surrendering.
No he’s not, but I am.
I don’ like Matt Lauer and I just called him a weenie.....
I’ve never done that before in my 16 years here.....
I love that Donald speaks his mind!.....but I’m having pangs of regret calling Matt Lauer a name... ( not that he will ever read it)
Suffice to say, Matt Lauer is not a nice man.
I guess that’s another reason I like Donald Trump......I’m content to hide behind him and stick my tougue out at the person......while Donald expresses what thousands, millions of us feel!

Well said ... because that describes almost all republicans in political leadership roles and the herd of wannabe presidents currently vying for the pubbie nomination. Jeb Bush comes to mind immediately.
He did a great job staying on message. Even when he defended himself, he pushed it right back to the message.
We’ll see how he does in the debate. If he shines there... we may have a candidate. If he flops there, it’s over.
