McCain’s damage comes less from his voting record than from his willingness to accept the liberal side in public debate.

McCain’s lifetime ACU based on 32 years in office is 82.13 percent. Looking back over the past decade, the numbers vary widely, and spiked during his 2010 primary challenge.

2006 65 percent

2007 80 percent

2008 63 percent

2009 96 percent

2010 100 Percent (as he faced primary challenger J.D. Hayworth)

2011 80 percent

2012 92 percent

2013 52 percent

2014 91 percent

Republicans in his own state officially censured him in 2014, the year he claims a lofty conservative rating. Since the censure reports have surfaced that McCain and his allies have launched a political cleansing of their Arizona leadership, ousting one conservative Republican after another. Politico reported that after the censure, McCain’s team sought to, “unseat conservative activists who hold obscure, but influential, local party offices.”

Still, he isn’t a flaming liberal in his votes. He’s also no friend to conservatives. I want him gone, but he isn’t Jimmy Carter...

“You claimed I called the soldiers who stormed Normandy Beach in WWII were not heroes. That is a lie. They are the ones that said it, not I. I said they were heroes and they corrected me.”

And you accepted their correction, and now claim McCain has no business being called a hero. Thus, you have concluded the men storming Normandy were NOT heroes. Or are they? Because if they were heroes, then McCain qualifies. Which is it? You cannot have it both ways.

The political establishment and their sycophants in the media have made it into a myth as evidence of his ‘heroism’.

McCain, after decades of allowing the myth to be perpetrated, finally admits he is not a hero:

You should seek out information around the web. Even around FR

Here’s another article that discusses the successful hiding by Mccain of the materials

Why can't you ask "What if"? You say McCain is a douche and admit that he has been a bad guy in Congress.

You weren't in the Hanoi Hilton, but plenty of men were. Why not do the research and try to find out if the things being said by Vietnam Veterans Against McCain are true?

I did not vote for Willard Romney and continually blasted him as a Left Winger doing a poor impersonation of a Conservative.

Trump’s draft dodging is not even among the top 10 problems with him. The only reason I bring it up is that he belittled POWs with his “I like people who weren’t captured.” remark.

A draft dodger has no standing to demean anyone’s military service. Even Willard wouldn’t do that.

So, you are writing about when McCain and Kerry were in the Senate.

You simply cannot follow the conversation.

The conversation is about being in the war and being captured.

Is that “ heroic?” I guess in the definition of the late 20th century it was. it was not in my opinion. But he WAS there. Trump was not.

“There is no doubt McCain was MERELY following orders when he refused an early release offer by the Communists.”

Same can be said of all other POWs that were offered early release.

The implication in the headline and article is McStain would have left early if the order was not in place. That is quite a leap and questionable speculation.

Lot to attack McStain over but this is a low blow and unwarranted.

Again, the claim was no one has done more damage than McCain to the U.S. In the last 40 years and that’s just a garbage claim. It’s political hyperbole and nonsense. I don’t agree with McCain on many things and if you want to attack him politically that’s fine but the claim you someone cannot think of someone who has done more damage to the U.S. Than him can only be made by someone who is completely ignorant or just a complete fool.

In terms of people who have done more damage to the U.S. In the past 3-4 decades McCain doesn’t even make the list let alone be the top man on it. The allegation is preposterous and nothing more than hyperbole and that sort of crap needs to stay at DU not on FR

“> “Do you realize that you just defamed every POW who was offered early release and turned it down?”

I did no such thing.”

In that case, please clarify how the accusation against McStain cannot be used against all other POWs that refused early release. Thank you.

Ho real hero would ever claim to be one, and he did not.

I’m no McCain fan, but to you want to spend 20 minutes in the Hanoi Hilton, let along months and years, with a badly broken arm?

Lighten up on the guy. He survived a living hell.

Yes, when is the last time you saw the Left come to the defense of someone in the military? Have you ever seen them come to the defense of anyone who served in Vietnam?

Outside of McCain and Kerry, I don’t remember a single person the Left has defended from Vietnam.

From being happy to foster an atmosphere where people spit on our returning military members to actually defending them?

The Left in our nation is quite clueless. They actually think the public doesn’t notice these things.

All US service members are and were bound by the Code of Conduct which prohibits early parole. Stockdale's order was redundant of the Code. McCain following the Code does not make him a hero.

Broken arms, stabbed in the leg, starved and abused, POW in the most horrible prison ever. . .what chance did he have of effecting an escape? What actionable intel could he offer that would be worth the cost to his honor and breaking faith with his fellow POWs if he left early? The Code of Conduct requires you to escape if you can, but does NOT allow you to accept special favors--like early release.

Early rease was approved by Stockdale for a young guy that basically fell overboard and he was released to make sure names of POWs were known.

Many other POWs were offered early release and they all refused. Did that make then all “stupid.”

...... and he never said he was.

Imagine living in that hell hole (I was there in ‘08) with a broken arm that was never set right, and the son of an admiral that every piss ant guard wants to get “street creds” by beating up!

Think about it.
