A time for truth: Donald Trump is not a good politician. Right now, his popularity is due to his positions, and his media-hungry "Breath of Fresh Air" populist approach, not his skill as a politician.
As examples, Bill Clinton had horrible policies, especially as a national leader or a moral human being. But, with all those limitations, he was the best RETAIL politician of the last 50 years.
Reagan was great too, but he had the policies and morals to back them up. Clinton was a failure and moral reprobate, but still got elected. "Retail Politician" Gold Medal goes to Clinton on "degree of difficulty" (like in Olympic High Diving competitions.)
That said, The Donald's recent foray into flaming napalm re: John McCain was both unnecessary, and unwise. It had no upside.
In response to an urgent 3:00 AM call from his closest advisers, (which didn't even happen in a dream...) I have sent him the following.
I'm sure it will soon be behind him in the smallest room in his house.
Memo:
To: The Donald FR: CPE DT: Jul 19, 2015 RE: Dont hand ammunition to the media/enemy
#1: Re; your McCain comment: Never make a public comment that does not bring you benefit.
#2: Every public comment will be approved by some, disliked by others. Work to increase the % of the former, decrease % of the latter. Never play for a tie, or worse, a loss. You are smart enough to know which is which before you speak.
#3. In todays electronic age, every comment is public. Just ask Romney, Jesse Jackson (Wre going to cut the nuts....) or even fumduck Obama (Please tell Vladimir...)
#4; Just because its true, you dont have to say it. Just because John McCain is not a great War Hero for his time spent in captivity, the truth of the comment did not make the comment beneficial to you.
#5: When you attack personally, you give those attacked the ability to respond personally. If McCain now said, Does Trumps combover hide a hole in his head where all the brains flowed out no one would blame him. Yesterday such a comment by McCain would have been thought of as petty. Today, it would be a fair shot. Keep your comments about opponents to their policies, actions, demonstrable failures, not the people themselves.... (and why make the small fry like John McCain an opponent?) Youll have enough real, meaningful enemies. Why add to them?
Praise a person and their actions. Criticize only their actions.
#6; Never forget Rule #1 Every national election is decided by the 8-12 % middle of the roaders. Right or wrong, they like McCain. Whether they agree with his policies or not. the 8-12 % swing voters think he at least is a nice guy. Why take that shot when there was no gain in it for you?
Agreed on all counts.
That’s just great.
Conservatives are engaged in a war of ink againt people who lie about myself and other conservatives everytime all the time.
...and you want to point out what?
Who’s F’n side are you on?
McCain attacked Trump. If Trump sat idle others will follow suit. Trump’s attack avoids future attacks from others. In typical Trump form he attacked McCain’s strongest asset. It sends a message that Trump is a street fighter and should not be taken lightly.
Because of McCain's asinine remark about Trump "firing up the crazies" at his appearance in Phoenix.
I watched that event on-line, so I guess that means that McCain thinks I'm crazy too.
McCain is a ******* *******.
I prefer to attack my enemies with truth, lying about them only helps them. But, that’s just me, most others out there seem to prefer lying about everything.
Agreed.
My immediate and extended family are basically political retards, no fault of mine, I’ve tried.
Trump has them energized and they are asking me what I think. Encouraging.
It’s a big deal as far as I’m concerned.
As some posters this morning have pointed out, Trump was clumsily repeating a joke used earlier by both Chris Rock and Al Franken. For that reason, the lib media may let this one slide pretty quick.
Your post doesn’t refute a single thing (much less most) in hoosiermama’s post.
My point? Why ever go there in the first place?
You don;t have to backpedal from what you dont say.
.....................................................
I don’t see Trump backpedaling and neither does anyone else here.
What YOU don’t understand is what worked before is NOT going to work again. We, the TRUE RED-WHITE-AND-BLUE BLOODED AMERICANS are SICK of politicians. We have HAD ENOUGH. We are NOT going down the road again with a “Moderate” also called a RINO or a Democrat in Disguise, we delivered the House and the Senate and we got smaked down by Boehner and McConnell and the rest of the sell out gutless RINOS and we are looking for a BARNYARD BOSS who tells it like he sees it that will CLEAN HOUSE! One of the worst, McCain HAS TO GO and he WILL be primaried. rump is just laying the groundwork for what’s coming. Boehner has got to go too, so look for a big scrap between Boehner and Trump. Don’t know when. but it is coming.
You are all wet with your own “champagne” and don’t realize what worked before is NOT going to work this time. Florida, my state, has been SET UP by the ESTABLISHMENT for BUSH and we are already fighting him here. Bush WILL NO win in Florida nor Rubio either.
We have HAD ENOUGH and the Republican party had better start listening NOW!
All of you who consider yourselves experts are in a totally new ballgame. My advice? You’d better drop back ten and punt!
Darned good post.
It refutes quite a bit, but if you have read it and believe that both are saying the same thing, then you should be happy.
You are absolutely RIGHT ON!!!
The two articles do not say the same things but one does not refute the other. There is no truth to that.
Honey, listen to the actual interview. He was asked about John McCain and then when he started talking about John McCain insulting all of the people that listened to Trump in Phoenix, the commentator interrupted him with McCain is a war hero. Everyone acts like this was a single statement out of the blue to insult McCain.

How about trying to get the people that don’t vote because they’re sick of the 2 parties? These are the people that Trump is resonating with.
Thank you.
Why even mention McCain? What was the benefit.
......................................................
McCain badmouthed Trump supporters by calling them CRAZIES!
He has in the past equally badmouthed anybody and everybody who disagrees with him on anything, especially the Tea Party.Insults are McCain’s stock in trade and it is heart warming to see someone finally dish it out to him. McCain has to go. And that means NOW, the next election! He WILL be taken out in the next election because his veneer has worn so thin people are seeing him for what he really is. Trump is preparing the ground for McCain’s downfall and anyone else who needs to “get gone.”
Trump is not fighting a one front war. Is he tough enough? I think he is.
