More than 60 percent of registered Hispanic voters do not think a pathway to citizenship for illegals would benefit the country, and most do not see it as the best way to solve the countrys immigration problems, a new poll shows.
Of the 62 percent who felt a pathway to citizenship for illegals would not benefit the country, 33 percent felt it would hurt the economy, 7 percent felt it would overly burden public schools and 10 percent felt it would create public safety issues, the McKeon & Associates Wednesday poll found.
The economy is still the issue, Michael McKeon told The Daily Caller News Foundation. When 33 percent think immigration will hurt the economy, thats whats on their mind.
Its going to be very interesting to see if Republicans choose people with government experience to create jobs, or people like Trump who did it in the private sector, he added.
Only 38 percent said a pathway to citizenship would benefit the country, and 55 percent said it is not the best way to solve the illegal immigration problem.
The overall population may have other opinions, but these are the people who are actually going to vote, Michael Mckeon told TheDCNF.
Asked which plan they would support to help solve the problem, 26 percent said no immigration until the border secure, and 29 percent said illegals should be allowed to stay and work, but should not be granted a pathway to citizenship. One percent did not respond.

This has always been the case. Citizens of every category want the illegal alien inundation stopped.
It was true in 2008 when the GOP just HAD to have an amnesty candidate. They are purposely thwarting the will of the people.
Republican candidates do win if they run against illegal aliens, but they mostly will not do it where it matters most, for President. The guy who can actually stop the illegal alien inundation.
Because they are being paid by The Cheap Labor Express to not stop it.
Very succinctly put.
Thank you...so very true. Hard working Americans who arrived here as Latino immigrants are typically insulted by illegal gibsmedats who want to effectively cut in line and become parasites for freebies that the newly arrived citizens have to pay for with their hard earned tax dollars.
You Still have many who are here who have no problem with it, but you also have Americans born here stupid enough to support democrats, so you’re bound to Get a few bad eggs. That’s the left for you...
There is something odd about this article. According to the poll it links to,
44% of Hispanic-origin registered voters believe the best solution for illegal aliens is to provide them with a pathway to citizenship.
29% believe the best solution is to provide a pathway to legalization (basically a green card, I guess)
26% No immigration until the borders are secure.
1% Dont’t know.
I gather these are the only choices. In any event, that means almost three-quarters believe in a path to legalization at least. That is not the impression I got from the Daily Caller summary.
Check the poll that the article is reporting on. The results will surprise you.
Hispanics care about jobs and ‘services’ for themselves and their kin Not illegal immigration.
To the extent illegal immigration hurts their ability to get and hold a good job they are against it just like every other american.
If republicans want to win over this group they have to address their economic circumstances and convene them the Conservative way of self-reliance and hard work is the best way to improve their life. That they can’t trust or allow the government to take care of them or they will never break free and become truly successful.
Point out the example of the black community. People who get on welfare tend to avoid real success until they are forced off. Welfare is a crutch that historically and currently does more harm than Good, as it is designed now.
People like Cruz and other conservative leaders need to sell this message aggressively.
It really is not a coincidence that a population that has already demonstrated a willingness to break one law tends to be a lot more likely to be willing to break other laws.
The law is as much about respect as it is anything else, when you don’t have that respect your bound only by fear and feel will not keep many of us lawful.
if you want to increase immigration from south and central America you really don’t want the ones who have already come here illegally. They have already demonstrated their lack of respect for our laws in that act, that makes them a lot more likely to break other laws.
Unfortunately most ‘Hispanics’ support all the other planks of the democratic party platform for cultural and economic reasons.
Look at the counties from which they come and the current trending opposition to assimilation and towards multi-cultural tribalism promoted and in many cases demanded by the left who have labed assimilation and melting pot ‘offensive’ concepts.
As if theses new comers are better than our forefathers, and deserve to carve out their own country inside of ours rather than integrate with us. Thou out human history there has always been a word for that sort of person ‘el invasor’ or Invader in English.
We need to point out this elitism on their part, and the inviolability of a multicultural society by example of the conflicts that already exist among the defined ‘ethic’ group of today.
Are you sure about that, Okie?
“Latino Decisions,” a national Hispanic polling organization based in Dallas, had Republican Dan Patrick losing to the “wise Latina” by 68%-29%.
Latino Decisions does not do election day exit polling. The numbers above come from their election eve telephone poll.
It's certainly possible that election day polls are more accurate than election eve polls, but Latino Decisions is very well respected. Only the Pew Hispanic Center polls are considered more accurate than Latino Decisions, and Pew did not poll on this particular race.
According to the Latino Decisions election eve poll, every big name Republican in Texas lost the Hispanic vote decisively in 2014...
Senator Cornyn lost: 69%-30%
Rep. George P. Bush lost: 62%-33%
Gov. Greg Abbot lost: 68%-32%
I did, and I was not surprised.
79% of the poll participants voted to reelect Obama in 2012.
That means anything in this poll that even looks slightly favorable to the Republican Party is 24 carat steaming poop.
I said hispanic citizens.
Of the United States.
Immigrant or native born.
Illegal aliens are citizens of other countries illegally in our country.
I know the illegal aliens want amnesty, so does every other lawbreaker. Wouldn’t everyone who violates the law like a free pass?
Speaking of Pew, their numbers support my claim.
Pew did poll the Senate and Governor's race. For the Senate, Cornyn won the Hispanic vote 48-47. For Governor, Abbott gained 44% to Abortion Barbie's 55%. The poll I saw had it slightly closer -- something like 47/52.
As you note, Pew didn't report on the Lt. Gov. race, but the other poll had Patrick leading Letitia van de Putte (a Hispanic) -- which, in view of the Cornyn and Abbott results, certainly seems plausible.
I'm surprised NEP polled in Texas in 2014. In 2012 they did no polling in Texas because all the state wide elections were runaways for the GOP.
The NEP/NBC poll shows Patrick 46% - Van De Putte 52%.
http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/2014/TX/L/exitpoll
Scroll down on that same page, and they ask all Texas voters if “Ted Cruz would make a good president?”
No - 50% (!)
Yes - 35%
By the way, this is not the first time Latino Decisions has tangled with the National Election Pool on Hispanic voting.
In 2004, NEP claimed that, nationally, 44% of Hispanics voted for George Bush. You will see that 44% number referred to EVERYWHERE by the GOP Amnesty crowd.
Pew and Latino Decisions challenged NEP’s math. It took 6 years, but NEP finally revised Bush's share of the national Hispanic vote to 40%.
NEP probably wanted to report the inside story of "How Wendy Davis Won Texas".
It's pretty clear the Democrat brand among the Hispanic community is weakening here in Texas. Notably, there have been several defections by State Reps.
