Atlanta NAACP Proposes Sand Blasting Stone Mountain to Remove Davis, Lee, Jackson

The Atlanta chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has proposed that the sculpture of Confederacy President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee, and General "Stonewall" Jackson be sand blasted off the side of Stone Mountain in Georgia.

Chapter leader Richard Rose is telling local news outlets, "Those guys need to go."

They can be sand-blasted off, or somebody could carefully remove a slab of that and auction it off to the highest bidder.

All of this recognition of Confederate generals is upholding the white supremacy on which the Confederacy was founded and the war was fought.

It is time for Georgia and other Southern states to end the glorification of slavery and white supremacy, paid for and maintained, with the taxes of all its citizens.

Rose said he would be "elated" if they could start immediately in removing the Civil War history from the rock. He suggested adding back historical figures who are considered "instrumental in bringing peace between the races."

It is interesting to note that Stone Mountain Park boasts the largest bas-relief carving in the world, larger than two football fields. The project was begun in 1916 and was headed by lead sculptor Gutzon Borglum, who abandoned the project in 1925 and went on to sculpt Mount Rushmore. It took at least three decades for work to continue when the state of Georgia purchased the mountain and commissioned the carving to continue. It was completed in 1972.

Rose did not comment on whether the phrase "colored people" is historically offensive, nor did he suggest renaming his organization.

They’re going to keep pressing this. And the purge is going to keep spreading (NOLA is going through a big thing, too). This is getting really outrageous.

Wouldn’t this be an ideal opportunity to educate people that this is also something Stalin/ the Soviets did & make the connections between the democrats & the CPUSA?

This is on the order of the Taliban blowing up the statue of Buddha in Bamiyan, a site of historical significance that was sacrificed to the hysteria of religious extremism in 2001. These raging “get-even” hotheads are not one whit better than those Taliban commanders who thought this was “religious idolatry”, and they are operating under similar impulses.

Wiping out every vestige and every record of the “unapproved” versions of history have the distinct disadvantages of making a REAL record of mankind all but impossible, and without the record of past mistakes, how we ever be able to avoid making all the same mistakes (with similar outcomes) in the future?

Someday, even the most radical of Islamic jihadists will be gone, and with them, the record of every one of the historical markers and accumulated wisdom they destroyed during their passage.

Will the more radical of the race baiters have a similar stain upon their existence? For they, too, shall themselves be one day gone, erased from memory as they try to erase others.

In 1863, RE Lee had his headquarters on Clark’s Mountain, named after my ancestor. RE Lee is also a cousin. I don’t necessarily agree with everything represented on either side, I take it personal when uneducated idiots start wanting to rewrite history about my ancestors out of pure ignorance and emotion. Hate based on race has no place in this country, but the real racists are those most vocal about bullshit side issues.

Sand Plasted?
The sculpture itself is 3 acres in size and varies from 12 to 40 feet in depth and it’s granite.

Has it been mentioned that we’ll have to dig up Robert Byrd and burn his KKK ass?

historical figures who are considered "instrumental in bringing peace between the races."

Does this mean we have "peace" between the races? If so, then drop this crazy idea about Stone Mountain. If we do not have peace between the races, then there would be no one to replace Davis, Jackson & Lee.

They’d need a blast nozzle and hose the size of a cannon to get it done anytime soon.

I’m sure that after it is blasted, all grievances from the NAACP will end.

All of this recognition of Confederate generals is upholding the white supremacy

In that case, we should get rid of all statues of Lincoln too, because he was also a white supremacist:

"I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and the black races. There is a physical difference between the two which, in my judgment, will probably forever forbid their living together upon the footing of perfect equality; and inasmuch as it becomes a necessity there must be a difference, I, as well as Judge Douglas, am in favor of the race to which I belong having the superior position. I have never said anything to the contrary..." (Lincoln Douglas Debates)

And again in 1858:

“I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races — that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races...I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.”

I propose we attach signs indicating party affiliation to each and every individual or group targeted for elimination

These idiots are erasing history which happens to include slavery. Maybe all references to slavery should be taken out of text books first...just like the men on the mountain, it didn’t happen.

Orwell 1984: Memory Hole A small chute in the wall used to carry documents to a large incinerator, in order to censor information and or remnants of the past.

Definition: “He tried to remember in what year he had first heard the mention of Big Brother. He thought it must have been at some time in the Sixties... there was no knowing how much of this legend was true and how much invented... It was not true, for example, as was exclaimed in the Party history books, that the Party invented airplanes... But you could prove nothing. There was never any evidence” - - Orwell

It may take years, and who will pay for it? I would estimate at least a billion.

Well, that would put them right up there (or down there, depending on one's POV) in the ranks of the Taliban, who sand-blasted ancient sacred Hindu bas-relief sculptures from "their own" mountains a few years ago, erasing more than a millennium of human history in the process.

Atlanta NAACP should be ashamed of themselves.
