Sen. Ted Cruz (Tex.) and real-estate mogul Donald Trump -- each running for the Republican presidential nomination as anti-establishment outsiders -- are cultivating an already chummy relationship at this early stage of the 2016 race and will huddle Wednesday in New York.
The meeting was confirmed by Republicans familiar with both campaigns who requested anonymity to discuss private conversations. Aides to Cruz declined to comment, as did Trump representatives.
The meeting will take place at Trump Tower, the gleaming Manhattan skyscraper where Trump has for decades managed his business endeavors, according to knowledgeable Republicans. The building now serves as the headquarters for Trumps national political operation.
The conclave is the latest sign of budding solidarity between the contenders, who have been friendly for several years and who have put forceful critiques of illegal immigration and their partys establishment at the center of their bids.
In recent weeks, Cruz has defended remarks Trump made on immigrants over the past month that have drawn rebukes from leading Democrats and Republicans. Trump said in his announcement speech that when "Mexico sends its people," it sends people who are "bringing drugs. Theyre bringing crime. Theyre rapists."
While other Republicans called Trumps words "offensive and inaccurate" (Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida) or "extraordinarily ugly" (former Florida governor Jeb Bush), Cruz praised Trump as someone who is "terrific" and "speaks the truth."
Asked about Cruz in an interview over the weekend, Trump told The Washington Post, "I really respect him for saying what he did."
Earlier this month on CNN, Trump said, "I shouldn't say this because, I assume, he's an opponent, but the fact is he was very brave in coming out."
Cruz has previously met with the mogul at Trump Tower, mostly during fundraising swings through New York.
Republicans close to Cruz said the first-term senator is intent on staying cozy with Trump

The meeting will take place at Trump Tower..”
Nice.
and hard to argue with Donald on this point....if you got a tower, hold your meetings there, after all!
Bttt
Ill get yelled at for this, but here goes:
Not by me. I’ve been saying this for a couple of weeks now.
Trump and Cruz are pulling a rope-a-dope on the media.
This partnership has been in place for a month. I believe Trump wants Cruz to be President, and was unhappy that the media was ignoring him. Cruz has raised $51 million. Trump backs out, supports Cruz and bingo he has more money than Jeb.
This is speculation, but Trump and Cruz have something up their sleeve, and they are 5 chess moves ahead of the liberals.
Oh, good God, enough with the hero worship. I don’t care if Trump “hasn’t had a boss” for three hundred years. He isn’t qualified to be president, while Cruz is.
Trump is filling a niche right now and saying things that need to be said. It’s a pity folks can’t take it for what it’s worth instead of trying to make him some kind of savior of the country.
Cruz is in no way subordinate to Trump, nor does he need to pretend to be.
Can we make a small side bet? Strawberry Pancakes at IHOP?
If it is Trump/Cruz you buy, if it is Cruz/Trump I buy and will throw in crispy bacon!
By the way, do we know the money source behind Ted's Pac?
Entropy, friend, they’re not going to be on the same ticket. Trump will drop out at some point. So I can’t take your bet.
It’s too bad in a way...I love bacon, LOL.
His wife works for Goldman-Sachs, so there’s that.
NO!!! I don’t trust Trump and I want Ted for Pres. Polls smolls, This is a flash in the pan—fool’s gold.
Thank you for instilling logic into the Trump lovefest.
This has the potential to be VERY GOOD NEWS... If a couple of solid candidates can unite early...
Indeed, this is the last chance —peaceful chance.
It will be Cruz......../Trump or I won’t bother to vote.
Oh, I could see Trump as VP, making the deals in the backroom of the White House. That is a natural.
This is what I have been trying to tell you folks. Something is going on between these 2. I may be wrong, but I think these 2 got together and are working against the establishment. I feel that Donald has the strong Business Intellect and Ted Cruz has that strong Constitutionalists Intellect. Put both of them together and you got one hell of a team.
I’m all laughter with happiness. =)
OMG imagine all the liberal media mouthpiece and Obama’s minions will have their head exploding you would think we are being attacked.
Yes they did way before Ted Cruz announced his candidacy for president. That is why I keep saying I have a feeling that these 2 are working together that will slap the face of the establishment.
