Texas secessionists kick off statewide speaking tour to campaign for a break from the Union

A group of Texas secessionists is hitting the road to bring their message of a Lone Star nation to more than 20 cities across the state.

Today, the Texas Nationalist Movement is kicking off their "Take Texas Back Tour," with speaking dates booked at hotels and other venues throughout North, East and Central Texas. The group says it aims to collect signatures to get Texas secession on the 2016 ballot. That isn't actually possible—only the legislature can get referendums on the ballot in Texas—but the separatists hope to court volunteers and supporters across the state.

Sunday, the Movement created a collection of Facebook events for each of their bookings. So far the highest number of confirmed guests will turn up this evening in Tyler—88 people—and on Wednesday in Fort Worth—62 people. Most of the seminars are booked at hotels, and other cities including Marshall, New Braunfels, Austin, Corpus Christi, Conroe and Dallas.

The TNM could not be reached for comment Monday. A secretary said all officials were out on the tour. In a statement on the group's website, president Daniel Miller said, "This tour is our way of connecting with the thousands of Texans who have pledged their support to our cause and makes a statement about the direction of the Texas Nationalist Movement. The relentless march to identify, communicate with and organize TNM supporters who are seeking to work for the independence of Texas is paramount at this point."

Places and dates are confusing. Some towns in article aren’t shown on the lists showing precise places and dates.

Or as I always say on these threads:

Do let me know when there is a Texas governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, or elected member of the legislature campaigning for secession.

Has a poll been done in Texas to test how popular the idea is?

Doesn't matter, the cities will never vote for it. Texas will vote all Blue no later than 2020. No chance of secession.

“I am miserable living in this “house divided”. It is cruel for the left and right to be forced in to the same political box. There needs to be a physical divide so the two parties can split and go there separate ways.

We can do this peacefully or in a bloody civil war. I am good either way.”

Bloody civil war?

Why are you any different than Bill Ayes?

You gonna start bombing Federal buildings like McVeigh if you dont get your way?

Pure fantasy.

It *almost* happened in Quebec not long ago.Ditto Scotland. And as for Scotland it's said that there's a good chance it *will* happen...and soon.

That may be true but there are numerous elected officials in both Quebec and Scotland who support secession. IOW indicative of some broad level of citizen support.

Are there any of those in Texas currently?

Maybe you are on the wrong website?

“Free Republic does not advocate or condone racism, violence, rebellion, secession, or an overthrow of the government.”

If they're pulling 62 people out of Fort Worth I don't think there's exactly a groundswell of support.

I view this as a surrender. It’s surrenders the other 49 states.

I view this as the first step by sane and rational people, looking at our country today, and deciding that they must try to save their State.

You may call it surrender; but, sometimes when everything is going to hell around you; and, you have no power to change the direction; and, the insanity seems to be picking up steam; the only choice left is to retreat from the madness, wait for it to implode on itself, and then help clean up the mess.

I hate to think that this is where we are; but, looking at the headlines of the past few weeks, how can I come to any other conclusion? Just today: Capitulating to Iran, thus pretty much assuring a nuclear arms race in the Middle East (the least stable region in the world); Planned Parenthood selling aborted babies' organs. What is going on? We used to know better than this. We used to be better than this.

I think people are, generally speaking, feeling completely powerless to fight against this stuff, that they know is wrong; but, have no power to change or even challenge. So, we are hunkering down.

You are good either way?...yet you arent condoning what you are good with?

That doesnt even make any sence.

You are good with a bloody civil war...since that is one of the two things you are good with.

That makes you no different that Bill Aryes...I dont care what your motive is.
