Scott Walker is Unbending (and unexcitable)
Washington Post ^ | July 14, 2015 | Michael Fletcher

Posted on 07/14/2015 6:36:24 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

"....Pleasant. That’s even how Walker’s bitterest political foes describe him.

In the heat of the state’s showdown with its union four years ago, Rep. Peter Barca, the Wisconsin State Assembly’s top Democrat, publicly denounced the governor at protests across the state. “You know, Governor Walker, you have defiled our heritage,” Barca said at one rally. “You have disregarded our values.”

But Walker, who declined to be interviewed for this article, never took it personally. “I’d give a speech in front of 50,000 protesters saying,‘Walker’s got to go,’“ Barca says, “and you’d see him the next day and you’d think I just sent him a coffeecake or something.”

Barca is part of a small group of leaders who meet regularly with Walker during the legislative session, but Barca said those gatherings are almost never satisfying. “Generally, when you meet with him on the major issues, you don’t feel like it’s a dialogue,”he says. “We get along just fine. He is sort of chitchatty. He exchanges pleasantries, makes some jokes. But you just feel like that on the big issues he is just there to tell you, ‘Here’s what I am going to do.’”

The roots of his immovability may lie in what he calls being a “P.K.”-a preacher’s kid.

In the tiny farming community of Plainfield,Iowa, where Walker moved when was 2,his father,Llewellyn Walker, was pastor at First Baptist Church and served on the city council. His mother, Patricia, was head of the Sunday school. The family, which would soon include Walker’s younger brother,David, lived in a parsonage next door to the church.

Walker credits his no-frills upbringing and parents’ example for imbuing a deep religious belief and a clear moral vision that has guided him for as long as he can remember...

“Scott has a very strong sense of right and wrong,”says Stephen Satran, who was in an antiabortion group with Walker in college...

He is good on labor issues but his delivery is obnoxious, imo. He is no Ted Cruz.

If Scott has a very strong sense of right and wrong, why hasn’t he imbued this to his wife and kids? It sounds like a house divided......the sons are ‘passionate’ for gay marriage.....the wife is good with it too cause she has a lesbian aunt who recently married another lesbian.
I bet he has. But that's the thing about freedom and the human spirit - you can't make someone else believe anything. I imagine his children adore him and do have a solid sense of values and right versus wrong. It may be that they respectfully disagree with their dad (and you) on this matter.

it is all about how they feel.

The left has to hate him because they get their marching orders from unions (labor and gay). Regardless, I find his speech delivery obnoxious. I heard the libertarians on the radio rave, but I think they were too generous. He needs to stay in his own state and leave the Presidency to another.

I find Cruz good on issues but to borrow your quote about Walker, “his delivery is obnoxious, imo.”

Different strokes for different folks.

Interesting, coming from an ardent fan of thrice-married Donald Trump. And are we to also to infer Sarah Palin has also failed to imbue the right-and-wrong value to her kids, especially her eldest daughter?

Is it obnoxious because he doesn't use a teleprompter, or because he speaks in a plain, common-language approach to the audience?

Your response was not very gracious.....

I am only repeating what Tonette said when she gave her interview in Washington Post...I did not make it up

Are you putting President Reagan down......to lift your candidate up?

We just felt the sting of the Supreme Court ruling....
I don’t need nor want ...’the boys are passionate about same sex marriage’

There are good conscientious people stepping away from long held jobs just so they won ‘t have to marry homosexuals.

There are bakers, florists, pizza makers who have felt the sting of homosexual ‘passion’

Walker is the perfect foil to the Obama years. Want the opposite of Obama, Walker is the plain spoken midwestern governor with a slew of resume achievements. He’s an everyman, likable, etc. Obama was the foil to Bush....from southern, lack of communication skills, boldly American to young, hip big speech giver. Bush was the foil to Clinton - good family man, not slick, no personal drama. Clinton also was a foil to Bush 41. Each president has provided the answer to their predecessor’s biggest glaring weaknesses.

It is not about the teleprompter or the language. it is the delivery that gets on my nerves. It is not expressive but rather monotone. I felt shouted at.

He's got the resolve, but he doesn't seem to grasp as yet that without Americans, there is no America.

????

Hey, I'm a fan of the guy, but he's said some very ambiguous things over the past 6 months.

Before I heard Cruz I heard someone on the radio (I think Savage) say that Cruz had an obnoxious voice. So I listened to him and I do not find his voice obnoxious at all. He is very smart and quick.

Probably the best speaker is Huckabee, but he has to win more supporters or it won’t matter. Santorum is pretty good but he is a little too mild in a world that crushes mild. I want to hear Jindal.

A society where charisma is #1 and name recognition #2 in determining their public leaders is a society that is senseless and simpleminded.

You might want to ask Nancy Reagan. Lynn Bush is worse than her husband. It seems that they are all this way.
