His speeches can blend biblical fury with apocalyptic doom. Pope Francis does not just criticize the excesses of global capitalism. He compares them to the dung of the devil. He does not simply argue that systemic greed for money is a bad thing. He calls it a subtle dictatorship that condemns and enslaves men and women.
Having returned to his native Latin America, Francis has renewed his left-leaning critiques on the inequalities of capitalism, describing it as an underlying cause of global injustice, and a prime cause of climate change. Francis escalated that line last week when he made a historic apology for the crimes of the Roman Catholic Church during the period of Spanish colonialism even as he called for a global movement against a new colonialism rooted in an inequitable economic order.

This is the problem when people
place their trust on a human pope
instead of God alone.
Sola scriptura.
Sola fide.
Sola gratia.
Solo Christo.
Soli Deo Gloria.
No pope!
Start passing out all that vatican dough, big shot.
“Donald Trump for Pope!”
He’d turn the Vatican into a a five star hotel! Which would be a better use that what it’s being used for at present, to house a criminal.
How do you impeach a Pope?
This Catholic has ceased making offering to the Church; I would not want to offend the Poe with money which I earned through pure capitalism which he terms dung of the Devil. Since Marxism does not produce any escess for the worker, the times are going to get hard for this Pope.
LOL!
Good one!
Leni
Oh, great, a hippie pope, just what we need.
Bloody papist.
Nope. This pope is a Marxist. A philosophical descendant of Stalin, Khrushchev, Castro, Mao, Brezhnev, Andropov, and his majesty Lord Putin. A fellow traveler on a long road where the blood of the faithful has flowed freely for decades.
Memo to Pope: Communists want to take your church to the devil. Corrupters of youth already have.
To be fair to His Holiness, “dung of the devil” refers to the “unfettered pursuit of money” rather than “unfettered capitalism”.
Capitalism does not advocate “unfettered pursuit of money”. For example, it proscribes fraud and coercion in the pursuit of money.
However, the braindead in the progressive movement and the MSM are incapable of making such distinctions.
Unfortunately, His Holiness also seems incapable of making such distinctions. In all likelihood, he actually did mean this as an assault on capitalism.
Here’s the “dung of the devil” quote in context:
Today, the scientific community realizes what the poor have long told us: harm, perhaps irreversible harm, is being done to the ecosystem. The earth, entire peoples and individual persons are being brutally punished. And behind all this pain, death and destruction there is the stench of what Basil of Caesarea called the dung of the devil. An unfettered pursuit of money rules. The service of the common good is left behind. Once capital becomes an idol and guides peoples decisions, once greed for money presides over the entire socioeconomic system, it ruins society, it condemns and enslaves men and women, it destroys human fraternity, it sets people against one another and, as we clearly see, it even puts at risk our common home.
The “dung of the devil” part is less offensive than the explicit statement that, when used to guide decisions, capital destroys ruins human society, etc. That is just arrant nonsense.
Under capitalism Christianity lives.
Under the Popes favored socialism and communism, Christianity fades away under constant persecution. Is he taking a page out of Obama’s playbook??
I’m sure his remarks were just misinterpreted by the press < /sarcasm>
Capitalism the cause of climate change? Really? How did someone this stupid get to be pope? Gravity the cause of unicorn farts I could respect but this is psychotically delusional.
An all-purpose, “[fill in the blank] was misrepresented/misinterpreted, doesn’t speak for The Church, and was poorly Catechized.”
Right. In what other system do people reap rewards for their contributions to society, with the result that the more they contribute, the more they receive?
Capitalism, simplified: From each according to his ability, to each according to his contribution.
I’m glad I don’t have a pope.
This idiot pope is to Christianity, is what Eric Holder is to Justice
Communist. He needs to pass out the riches at once.
