District of Columbia residents and tourists weighed in on the controversy surrounding the Confederate flag, some saying the nation should go as far as renaming Washington, D.C.
CNN anchor Don Lemon recently floated the idea of re-thinking the Jefferson Memorial, dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, since he was a slave owner.
There may come a day when we want to re-think Jefferson, I dont know if we should do that, but when we get to that point, Ill be happy to partake in that particular discussion, Lemon said.
It should come down, one D.C. resident told PJ Media, referencing the Jefferson Memorial in Washington.
If we do that, though, George Washington owned slaves. Should we rename Washington, D.C.? he was asked.
You have to draw the line at some point, I guess, maybe take a poll across the country and see what people think about it and if they want to rename the city, do it, he said. I would support changing the American flag as well. America is based on a lot of mass killings and slavery and the history is just look at the Germans, they own up to the Holocaust, nobody is proud of their history. Americans, at least, you should not be proud of any mass killing. You should not be proud of anything wrong thats been done in the past or any symbols that represent that and thats all.
Another man suggested renaming Washington Black City or Mixed City.
We are all human and we are all the same, no more slavery, he said. As a black person, yes, they should rename it anything that relates to slavery, take it off. Its only fair.
Some residents disagreed with taking down the Jefferson Memorial or renaming Washington.
Thats not necessary thats all a part of history, one man said.
D.C. tourists and residents were also asked if they agreed with a bill recently introduced by Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, which would remove the Confederate flag from license plates across the U.S. if states want their full amount of federal transportation dollars. One tourist told PJ Media the bill was not necessary.
No, I think its a part of history. It may not be pretty but its a part of history, she said.
Others agreed with the bill.
I feel like its a symbol of hate, just like the swastika, and I think that it should probably go. People are so unhappy and offended by it, so lets just get rid of it, a resident said.
Anyone who didnt see this coming just wasnt looking.
In our countrys recent history weve celebrated diversity in our population as if it were a good thing. However, one look at world history will show you that no country with a diverse population of different races, languages, and religion has long survived.
Countries dont naturally form with a diverse population, and when in the past theyve occurred its usually been as a result of armed conquest. These unnaturally formed countries have either melded together into a single population made up of one mixed race with one language and one religion or theyve come apart, and theyve usually come apart with extreme violence. The longer these diverse populations are forced to coexist with one another without mixing and becoming one, the more the hatred grows among them and the more violently they break apart, but break apart they will, or genocide will settle the issue once and for all.
According to the article, someone wanted to rename Washington D.C to “Black City”. Imagine that.
Rename Washington D.C.? I agree. How does Obamagrad sound?
Name it after the capitol of Kenya.
Completely agree
Obama grad - or Gus Hall City.
Rezone for no houses. Business/Gov only.
The STUPID, it doesn’t just burn; it CREMATES!
Notice, though, in all this discussion of removing symbols,
icons and names that remind these LIVs of “slavery”,
there is NO discussion about the DemocRAT party’s role
in upholding slavery, Jim Crow laws, lynching,
creating the KKK and opposing civil-rights.
Call dc stalingrad or marxville or obamastan...
Holy 1984 Batman!
Crazy behavior doesn't have to be encouraged among those nitwits. They are pissing people off across most of the political spectrum.
I assume these same people who want to get rid of the Jefferson Memorial also want to get rid of the Great Pyramid in Egypt, the Great Wall of China, tear down what’s left of the Parthenon and the Coliseum in Greece, the Taj Mahal, and the Mayan pyramids in South America.... all built by slaves of many different ancestries.
Hell ya! Evil slave holding SOB’s!
Who couldn’t see this coming...
“...America is based on a lot of mass killings...”
Like what ??? Maybe the recent stuff with the Branch Davidians in WACO, TX.
We have so many “average” people in the streets today who are such morons. No knowledge of history, traditions, etc. No ability to survive, unless it is making it through a weekend on the streets in Chicago, Baltimore, DC, Detroit or New Orleans without getting shot.
It is time to start pointing and laughing at people and ridiculing them for these kinds of statements. Given them credit due ... laughter.
The Jefferson Memorial isn't going anywhere, though it may be reinterpreted as another FDR memorial, which is basically what it was when it was built back in the 1940s.
Detroit needs them so ship them there. If they want to make big bucks sitting on their gluteus maximus, move them to Boston where they can make around $50,000 a year in state unemployment insurance. (need to check that figure - but it is high)
Sodom seems an appropriate replacement!
Then the logical thing to do would be BAN the Democratic Party since they are the party of slavery, KKK, Jim Crow, etc.
