NEW YORK (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stood firm Monday on his description of Mexican immigrants as criminals.
The businessman, under fire from critics in and out of his party, issued a lengthy statement refusing to back off comments he made in the speech launching his presidential bid last month. In it, he called Mexican immigrant criminals and rapists, prompting several businesses, including NBC, Univision and Macy’s, to cut ties with Trump.
In his new statement, Trump said “the Mexican government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States” and claimed that in many cases, they are “criminals, drug dealers, rapists, etc.”
He said later Monday, during a charity golf tournament at one of his courses, that his standing in some polls is proof that many Americans share his views.
“I think the polls are a testament,” said Trump, one of more than a dozen Republicans running for president. “In the old days, they used to use a term, `the silent majority.’ We have the silent majority back, folks.”
Polls this early in the race tend to reflect name recognition more than depth of support for a candidate and few in the GOP regard Trump, a well-known TV figure, as a serious presidential contender despite poll standings that may be good enough to qualify him to be in the first GOP debate. Debate guidelines provide for the top 10 candidates in national polling to participate.
One major brand that has not cut ties with Trump is the New York Yankees. The team’s co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner, who organized the charity golf tournament at Trump’s new course in the Bronx, said the real estate developer is “a loyal friend and I am loyal to my friends.”

Yes they did empty out their prisons during the Mariel boat lift, but not all of them were prisoners.
Many were Cubans that wanted to get the hell out of Cuba. Plus many of them were political prisoners. Anti Communist in other words.

I live in Mexico. I post from Mexico. Less than 100 yards where I pen these words, a young man died with a bullet in his forehead. The man who committed the crime, fled across deserts, resides safely now in San Bernadino, California. In 1996 3 young men broke into my house in Mexico, and ran to live in Las Vegas, they ran drugs up and down the Interstates. Jose Antonio stole bicycles and released on bond, fled to the U.S, he works in an exotic fish store in Tampa, Florida. AND YES it works both ways. Every year I stumble across U.S. citizens, who have fled the UNJUST court systems of the USA. I have had 18 yr old boys, who had consensual sex, with a 15 yr. old girl who wanted to PLAY. The boy got the book thrown at him, and they wanted him to do 35 years in prison. THAT was because he committed this crime near the Jon Benet Crime scene, and judges were out to STOP pedophiles. MANY Americans living around Chapala the Lake, are fugitives trying to hide from the law. So, if Donald Trump could make this statement and it could be TRUE, I would suggest that the Mexicans could say the same, that the criminals of America have sought refuge among their hoarded masses.
