Meet the Press host Chuck Todd spent several minutes Sunday morning trying to extract an answer from Senator and 2016 candidate Ted Cruz (R-TX) about what the Donald Trump-saluter proposed doing with the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country, and appeared very unhappy when he didnt get one.

Ted is looking at it logically as a doctor might. Triage: The process of determining the priority of patients’ treatments based on the severity of their condition.
Not my favorite answer of his, I give him an 8.
In case the Senators team is lurking...
First Priority is to secure the border (he got that part right).
Second Priority is to return violent felons to their homelands. Call them category A.
Third Priority is to return other felons. Call them category B.
Fourth Priority is to deal with illegals who are not actively employed or otherwise contributing who’s only crime is illegal entry. Cat C.
Fifth Priority is illegals who positively contribute, but are still, in the end, here illegally. Cat D.
There should be no path to residence for Cat A and B, and their home nations should be made responsible for either accepting their return or having the cost of their continued incarceration deducted from their foreign aid.
Cat C people will be at risk of return . That is their incentive to contribute and move into Cat D.
Cat D illegal immigrants are where there is room to have a decent discussion. People who work hard, follow local laws, pay taxes, and therefore contribute to society. There should in no case be any advantage of either finance or time to those who entered without following the law.
It should be noted that these are priorities, not sequential steps. We are a versatile nation, we can handle doing several things at once. But a significantly greater portion of time, effort, and funds should be applied to the higher priorities.
Also, it should be noted that none of these priorities are specific to any ethnic, religious, or national group. Application of policy may differ simply because different home nations will react differently. I imagine that Australia or Japan would handle the return of a felon differently than would Costa Rica which would be different than Egypt.
Some might resist, and those resisting could simply get an invoice detailing how we are deducting our direct costs from their quarterly foreign aid payments. Place a burden on these governments and make them financially incentivized to uphold their end of the program.
“Ted is looking at it logically as a doctor might.”
Ted evaded the question. Why? There are perhaps 30 million already here.
It will be years before a fence can be completed. Even Romney called for self-deportation (employer verification), words that Ted did not have the guts to use. Maybe he is waiting for Trump to take the arrows.
Well I didn’t see it so do you mind telling us what he does plan to do about it?
If this is what he said this is nothing more than political speak. Which I’m sick of.
You’ve also stated before that you think Cruz isn’t an American citizen, so....
What comes next is PUT THEM OUT!
I don’t care if they’re here to “feed their family” they’re law breakers, and they’re stealing our jobs and money. I want them rounded up and hauled back to their country!
No, I have never said that, so...
Identify them first (I’m sure we can do retinal relatively cheap) before deportation. Those that have lived here illegally and taken ANY form of assistance; never a chance for a “legal path”, ever. They broke our laws, drained our coffers and resources (maybe not ALL of the illegals, but a damn good chunk of them). If they somehow pop up again, deport again with a nice price tax levied against Mexico, a very nice price tag. When Mexico refuses to pay, annex 10 miles deep past our border and THEN build the wall. I’m sure Mexico with its harsh treatment on its southern border should have no problem with that and if they do, F’em.
That fence could have been built quickly, at any time during the last 30 years.
Cruz is trying to get it built, and the way to do that, is first, get the fence built, then you can let the left get back to the talking points that they have used for 30 years, to keep that fence from being built.
“It will be years before a fence can be completed.”
What are you saying, we have to wait around until “a fence can be completed”? For years? There are other ways to secure the border in the meantime, while a fence is being completed. If you don’t believe that, what good is expelling illegals going to do for you? They’ll just get right back in until, as you say, “a fence can be completed”. I just don’t agree with your logic.
I don’t think Cruz answered the what do you do with illegal immigrants here now part very well at all. I think any politician NEEDS to answer that part of the question. The closing the borders part ... we all know that piece ... and all know it needs to happen like right now.
But WHAT does come next? I want to hear that plan/proposal. I’m tired of dodge ball politics. I want specifics.
Cruz has clearly said, if someone is here illegally, No Amnesty for them, EVER.
Your Cruz birtherism is right there in your posting history.
Own it.
I agree with you on deportation. So far, no candidate, including Trump has committed to deportation.
I’m willing to put off the argument about what happens after the fence is built, until we get the fence actually built, something that has been delayed for decades.
The left always wants to go straight to the emotion laden theoreticals about families that are already here, and we never get our fence, or the flow stopped.
Imagine if this fence had been completed 20 years ago.
I was making the same point you are making. It will take years to build the fence, millions more can come in, when the fence is completed the cry will be made that they have been here so long, etc. Employer verification and self-deportation can begin next week. Cruz wants the “conversation” (wiggle word for amnesty) to begin UPON COMPLETION of the fence.
Now, just watch some Cruz supporter ping me and tell me what a horrible person I am. They will not refute what I say, but name calling is their main way of refutation.
Don’t lie, you are a birther in regards to Cruz.
You have argued it with CatherineofAragon before.
Cruz has said secure the border and enforce the laws. I have no doubt that he will deport those who have broken other laws.
I want to see mass deportation, too. But until the border is secured that will be totally ineffective, as evidenced by the number of illegals who have been deported multiple times.
