Israel's former ambassador to Egypt, Zvi Mazel, currently a researcher at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA), believes that the Egyptian army is not going to be able to successfully fight ISIS. In the end, he believes, the IDF is going to have to do the job.
The Egyptian army has not collapsed, and it is very large, with 600,000 soldiers, said Mazel. But for two years they have been fighting guerrillas in Sinai, unsuccessfully. They are just not experienced enough in guerrilla warfare.
Eventually, it is very possible that ISIS will take over Sinai placing them along Israel's longest border. If that happens, the IDF is going to have to fight ISIS on its own. Already some of ISIS is in Sinai, operating near the Israeli border, said Mazel.
The problem is not just in Egypt, but in nearly all Arab countries. They have huge armies but they fall apart in the face of a threat from a relatively small group, said Mazel. Unlike in the north, where there are some groups that hold Hezbollah back from opening a front against us, ISIS are true fanatics who are looking forward to fighting Israel.

Interesting. However, it does not explain why groups like ISIS are having such success.
I cant wait to see the IDF tear the ISIS bastards apart. Like the first Gulf War. Bets on how many [few] hours it takes them?
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
But this would put Israel in a difficult spot. Sure, they could demolish ISIS in a VERY short time, but the political result might be to unite and inflame the Muslim world against them.
It’s not fair and it doesn’t make sense. But that’s an operative definition of Islam.
Countless when a large enough percentage of your forces believe the terrorists are the good guys.
What if there were no Islamic world?
I know, but if ISIS comes knocking, the IDF will answer the door. I don’t want it to happen, but we all know how it’s gonna work out if it does. Which is my point...
Conscripted armies tend to not perform as well as volunteer armies.
Well, that explains 0bama.
I always liked that one.
Motivation
Well.... ISIS has the backing of the US Government.
Aqaba! Aqaba!
“Interesting. However, it does not explain why groups like ISIS are having such success.”
True, it doesn’t say it but isn’t logical to conclude that it boils down to two things?:
1) They don’t think, plan, or act the same way the Arab national armies do - or at least not to the same degree.
2) ISIS is fighting Arab national armies which are all deficient - as the articles point out.
The Kurds - who are not Arabs - have had some bis successes against ISIS even without heavy equipment (gee, thanks for nothing Obama). And the Turks probably could crush ISIS in a matter of weeks. It’s not that ISIS is oh so good. It is that everyone they are fighting is oh so terribly bad.
The Egyptians apparently lack good aerial intelligence as well as on the ground as to where the ISIS fighters operate from (though the Egyptian Air Force has been conducting raids on known or suspected camps).
This is where Israel will be quietly helping Sisi and the Egyptians, and on occasion, take out a ripe target on the sly, giving credit to the EAF.
The Sinai is big but the Israelis know it very well. Let’s see what happens in the next month or two. I wouldn’t be surprised if the ISIS forces get their asses kicked badly.
Excellent!

Also, unlike the typical Arab soldier, ISIS recruits believe in a cause.

From what I’ve read, it seems most Iraqi soldiers were in it for the pay and the pay only. Once any risk presented itself, they dropped their weapons and ran. Afghan soldiers are probably the same way.
Let’s see Nuclear weapons and a band of murderous lunatics.
Young Arabs (Egyptians, Syrians, Jordanians, Saudis whatever) were brought up as Muslims.
Whatever accident of where they were born, they still identify as Muslims.
The regime where they live is just the regime. Why should they die for that, as opposed to merely giving way?
Not to mention, wherever they are, a significant part of the populations want ISIS to win.
The Paranoid people?
