An Oregon official certified a ruling Thursday imposing a $135,000 fine against Christian bakers who refused to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple.
The official then ordered the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa not to speak publicly about their conscientous decision to follow their religious beliefs by not baking any cakes for same-sex weddings.
The company has gone out of business due to the legal battle.
An article by The Daily Signal, a publication of the Heritage Foundation, states that Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian ordered Aaron and Melissa Klein to "cease and desist" from openly professing that they won't serve gay weddings because of their Christian beliefs.
Avakian cited an Oregon state law in his ruling:
"The Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industries hereby orders (the Kleins) to cease and desist from publishing, circulating, issuing or displaying, or causing to be published any communication to the effect that any of the accommodations will be refused, withheld from or denied to, or that any discrimination be made against, any person on account of their sexual orientation."
On their Facebook page, the Kleins responded:
"This effectively strips us of all our First Amendment rights. According to the state of Oregon we neither have freedom of religion or freedom of speech."
The Kleins say they will appeal the ruling.
If you are suggesting that we are serfs in a fascist regime, then the overbearing flaunting of crony capitalism should further convince both of us that you are correct.
America needs a “Go Fund Me” site for Christian defense funds. Great business opportunity for some enterprising business person.
Wonderful. Orwell’s thought police are right here in America and we let it happen.
Could be worth a try, as long as some judge didn’t shoot it down as discriminatory.
Wow Oregon.
Nazi much?
Ask Anthony Kennedy.
Yep, a specifically detailed and carefully explained right of religion in the 1st amendment is somehow trumped by Kennedy's finding a 'right of dignity', or somesuch, that is 'a fundamental right' and that trumps the very first right that came to the finds of the Founders when they were writing the first bill of rights.
I think Scalia hinted very strongly at Kennedy's massive ego.
5. All proceeds from the cake will be donated to the Family Research Council.
Now that's a kicker!
Well incorporation makes it more formal than merely not exercising them. Incorporation is actually a contract with the government to completely surrender natural rights for the purpose of the incorporation - totally. In return, limited privileges are granted back to you as well as the legal option to be personally non-responsible for what the corporation does.
See, what people wanted when they created corporations was to avoid personal responsibility for their actions. To accomplish that, they had to "not be there." So in exchange for taxes and regulations and fees and loss of natural rights and rules made solely for the benefit of the government, the government says, "fine, you're not here."
And so the really important point in all of this is that that corporate status is the ONLY thing the Supreme Court rules on. Which brings up the question, why is a church incorporated in the first place? For a non-profit corporation status? They're already directly protected under the 1st Amendment. All they have to do, therefore, is dis-incorporate, and the SCOTUS ruling doesn't apply to them.
The Anglican Church invented divorce.
Once the queers established the language by labeling themselves “gay” they were well on the road to winning the battle for the coprophiliacs and lesbians. Normal people Joined their cause, unknowingly, by using the language queers established to downplay their mental illness. The first step to regaining control is to STOP using their language and call them what they are and describing them for what they do.
Once the judiciary has become an arm of tyranny with judges so corrupt and willing to take bribes, options simply vanish.
The judge is the bigger enemy here.
The Muslims are willing to take a serious stand, the Christians simply comply in meekness. The queers are taking the easy road and have in fact formed an alliance with Muslims against Christians.
A good portion of those thoughts get removed and the poster is banned from posting there. I know - I was one. S'ok - I have other Facebooks. hehehe
Good morning everyone:
Update on the Kleins, they have reached 87% of their goal this morning, thanks to wonderful people from all over the US and Canada donating to the ‘fine fund’.
Thanks to all of you who donated, prayed and otherwise supported this wonderful young Christian family!
If you haven’t donated, please consider doing so.
God Bless you.
Disobey and then sue them for Constitutional violation when they try to enforce the ruling.
If you would like more information about what's happening in Oregon, please FReepmail me.
I lost my Oregon list when my computer crashed last year, so please send me your name by FReepmail if you want to be on this list.
I think that was already tried in Colorado. IIRC, somebody wanted to force a cake baker to bake a cake saying marriage is only between a man and a woman, and the same court that had punished a baker for refusing to bake a gay wedding cake ruled that this baker had to be allowed to live consistently with his conscience and refuse to bake the cake supporting traditional marriage.
These judges and our society are deceived. They are incapable of thinking straight - can’t even see their own inconsistencies. This is spiritual warfare. Our battle is against the Father of Lies, and his minions and victims cannot see their own shackles. And the system is overrun with them; the system cannot fix itself in this condition.
Yesterday was a funeral for the country established by our Founding Fathers, who said this form of government was ours for as long as we could keep it. We haven’t kept it. The mental and spiritual condition of the people within our system is beyond repair by anything but spiritual renewal. The Lord is our ONLY hope at this point.
