SONGS OF THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE

If it’s in a minor key, you know it’s going to be long. This ballad, titled “The World Turned Upside Down, or The Old Woman Taught Wisdom,” was published originally in “Gentleman's Magazine” and afterwards on a broadsheet set to the tune “Derry Down.” The anonymous author said it is “a humble attempt to reconcile the parent and her children made by a peacemaker to Great Britain and her Colonies.” The band played it as Cornwallis surrendered to Washington at Yorktown.
