(Reuters Health) - Almost a third of American adults own a gun, but the rate varies widely by state and tops out at almost 62 percent of people in Alaska, new survey data show.
Gun ownership was closely tied to social gun culture, wherein family and friends also own guns and think less of non-gun owners, researchers found.
Considering the presence of deeply rooted gun culture and the estimated number of guns in the U.S. to be 310 million, we (suspected) that social gun culture is associated with gun ownership, said lead author Dr. Bindu Kalesan of the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University in New York.

Don’t be fooled; ‘gun culture’ is leftspeak.
Now there's some brilliance, right there.
Its an online poll... Nuff said
2.7 % Non Heterosexual.. Create a new Constitution out of pixie dust .
33% gun owners.. tiny minority to be destroyed.
Orwell had the date wrong.
Come on Freepers, we need to convince those other two people.
“In the new survey, gun ownership was least common in states with stricter gun control policies....”
LOL, do they really think they can get close to accurate numbers of people admitting they own guns in gun-grabbing states?
Ummmm....if I own more than one, does that count for the dorks that don’t own any? In that case count 22 people.
People should use the calm before the storm to learn how to shoot.Because every shot that misses it’s target is just useless fireworks.

That isn't any sort of culture they're describing there, it's familiarity with the object and an attitude. All of this "gun culture" narrative appears to be conveniently non-definitional; the speaker appears to be talking about something that he or she expects the listener to understand without specifics or evidence. That is not a culture at all, it is merely the working of a stereotype.
Universal background checks for purchasing guns and ammunition tend to be the most effective laws in discouraging gun ownership, she [Kalesan] said.
At least she's honest about it. When those topics come up the usual caveat is "we just want to know where they are," or "it's a tool in fighting crime." Everyone on the receiving end of these oppressive laws knows perfectly well what they're for; as with the phrase "gun culture", the people using it won't say it, but they know perfectly well what they're doing with it.
The number of gun owners is too low now that we have to share living space with ISIS sympathizers.
2 out of 3 lie about it to pollsters.................
I've been out at the range 2 -3 times a week over the last year. The other day I was rather proud of the fact that I was able to drop a bowling pin @ 50 yards, with my old wore out Taurus 9mm.
A Patriot's Prayer:
"Lord, make my hand fast and accurate. Let my aim be true and my hand faster than those who would seek to destroy me. Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine. Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun." And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home Let me die in a pile of empty brass."
Amen
Nice shooting.
One in three men will get prostate cancer.
Two in three own more than one?
Get it, or be TOLD they have it?
