Its difficult to see how the nationwide legalization of gay marriage could have any kind of significant negative repercussions for anybody whos not gay. Difficult but not impossible. Because now that the US government formally recognizes marriage equality as a fundamental right, it really shouldnt skew the tax code so as to give millions of dollars in tax breaks to groups which remain steadfastly bigoted on the subject.
Im talking, of course, about churches.

You mean, basically use the same model they use with the issue of Black churches preaching politics from the pulpit whilst retaining their tax-exempt status.
They probably will, except the injured party in that case is an amorphous government interest.
In the gay marriage case, the injured parties are persons.
However, the physical intimidation factor may keep any from making an issue of it.
The point is to shut down churches, businesses, and people who dont approve.
Which, of course, they cannot do unless they bring suit against the church, which will not be successful if the alternative to a church marriage is easily available...there is no right to a church sanctioned marriage in the new law...
If alternate accommodations being available precludes a lawsuit, then why were the bakers and florists fined and sued?
I emphatically say go straight flat tax. EVERYONE, EVERY COMPANY pays the same, no more exemptions for any reasons.
Even with the fair tax, they propose no tax on living necessities. Which means the politicians would immediately begin screwing it up with more exceptions for this and that...
Only way is a flat tax, same for everyone, no exceptions.
Agreed. But will the Supreme Court rule that way?
It is one thing to give gays the right to be married and another rewrite the first amendment. Gays can be married... just not in a church.
I am not an expert. Just wondering.
Not so here in the US. Just my opinion.
Maybe if they can drive people of faith into the dark corner where we are only allowed to whisper. But that hasn’t happened yet.
The secularist have been working on Sweden far longer than they have in America. Sweden used to be a Christian country but the left has worked its ways on them for many years.
“when those views are fanatical and hurtful, they come into conflict with the views of any honorable legislator who believes in freedom and equality. And at that point, it makes perfect sense for our elected representatives to register their disapproval by abolishing the tax exemption”
I can see this argument being made to defend whatever they feel they need to do to crush dissent. “it makes perfect sense for our elected representatives to register their disapproval by...(arresting leaders, seizing property, etc.)
“.
How about this beauty.
“if you want to thumb your nose at a fundamental right which is held by all Americans, then we are not going to privilege you with tax-free status. Well let you practice your bigotry, at least within the confines of your own church.”
Yes...we are so magnanimous that we will ALLOW you to practice your bigotry within the confines of your churches. (then only homes, then only prison)
Ya. My ancestors came from Sweden. :)
