Cruz works to defeat Washington "cartel"

GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz took aim Saturday at activist liberal judges, leaders of his political party and members of a "Washington cartel" that are thwarting American liberty and standing in the way of conservatives trying to change a "rigged" system that favors big-money special interests.

Speaking for an hour to about 200 supporters, the U.S. senator from Texas offered his 2016 presidential candidacy as the best hope to break the grip of Washington power brokers - what he called a "cartel" of union bosses, giant corporations, lobbyists, the media, liberal activist judges, and career politicians from both parties - and bring real change to restore and protect individual liberties, empower people from all socio-economic groups and return America to its preeminence as a world leader.

"The Washington cartel does one thing, it protects the past," Cruz told the appreciative crowd that repeatedly interrupted his remarks at a Drake University venue with applause. "No one in Washington represents the future. The game is rigged and they want to keep that game rigged in their favor."

Cruz said that became even more evident in the past few days when the U.S. Supreme Court issued rulings that supported President Obama's health care law and upended the traditional view of marriage being only recognized as a legal union between one man and one woman.

In response to the court's "hubris and thirst for power," Cruz said he is proposing an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would subject Supreme Court justices to periodic judicial retention elections -- beginning with the second national election after his or her appointment and again every eight years. Justices deemed unfit for retention by both a majority of the American people as a whole and by majorities of the electorates in at least half of the 50 states would be removed from office and disqualified from future service on the court.

If he succeeds in landing the 2016 GOP presidential nomination and winning the general election, Cruz said he would push reforms to establish a flat tax that would reduce the influence of special interests and enable the Internal Revenue Service to be abolished. He also envisioned changes to ease government regulations, end common core education standards in favor of more school choice and unleash Americans' entrepreneurial spirit and opportunities to empower people and break a poverty cycle by making the safety net "a trampoline not a hammock."

Cruz said the 2016 election should become a referendum on repealing Obamacare. Any GOP presidential candidate who does not fight actively for its total repeal should "step aside" and party activists should rally behind a full-spectrum constitutional conservative who can restore an America "we can believe in."

"The last thing the Republican leaders in Washington want to see is millions of Americans across the country mobilizing and coalescing around one strong conservative candidate," he said. Instead, the GOP hierarchy wants the party's factions fragmented so "once again they run right up the middle with 24 percent and nominate an establishment moderate who loses the election to Hillary Clinton," he added.

"Here's what the Washington cartel wants -- they want us divided," Cruz said.

"They will do everything possible to fragment us and pit us against each other because if we come together it's game over," he added. "The cartel only knows one thing - how to extort power and money to get what it wants and if I were elected president, it will stop."

Cruz is right on. If he means it and becomes President he will be the greatest President America ever had. He will be known as the President that saved America from the worst corruption in any world government the earth has ever seen.

I like Cruz. I wish he would give names of those in the “cartel.” There is much that goes on in Washington which is hidden from people in fly over country.

I would think that those in the House Freedom Caucus would be faithful to eradicating skunks.

Unforunately, that means they’ll see to it that his campaign goes nowhere.

The way things are potentially headed in this country, riding on Cruz control is a real comfort.

A few blackrobed lawyers repealed republican government last week.

What is to be done to restore freedom?
