The city council in Jacksonville, Florida, has taken up a proposal that, if approved, would make it illegal for residents to park their cars in any manner that prevents law enforcement from seeing their rear license plates from the street.
For those who live in single-family homes with off-street parking, such a law would make backing into the driveway to park an illegal act. Florida is among a handful of states that dont require car owners to display license plates at the front of their cars.
The proposed local bill would also require people who use car covers to figure out a way to make the license plates of covered cars similarly visible.

what about garages
Another reason to embrace ‘combat parking’. Well, actually the same reason, getting out of Dodge PDQ.
What???? That makes absolutely no sense!
It made sense to me, but whatever.
This Oregon Atny gets it:

Neighbors of mine were logistics people in US embassies in a couple of volatile African countries. When they retired it took a couple of years for them to stop parking backwards in their own garage.
You do know they are talking about driveways and not parking lots don’t you?
I just find two empty spaces and pull through the first into the second. The only people it ticks off are those who thought the found a spot just as I pull into it.
Actually, that would harm me. Even though I am happily married, I have always had a soft spot for adorable women.
Yes, I do. I made a comment about a different, but somewhat related, action.
Aw, now I feel bad about being gripy!
That’s okay in a right-angled parking situation, but not diagonal, because then you drive out the wrong way, at least if you’re driving a 747 like I am.
“it ticks off are those who thought the found a spot just as I pull into it.”
yea and coming from the other direction...nice head on,who’s fault would that one be?
Just knowing that I had an unlicensed veh behind my house concealed by vegetation and land contours gave one of my neighbors trouble sleeping at night. I have “seasonal” vehicles that dont deserve insurance nor plates for 8 months of the year. Many people hate automobiles and the freedom they can provide.
More difficult to tow.
I’m a recent transplant to MA, and someone told me it is illegal here NOT to back into your driveway if you live on a state road. (My road is so dangerous I wouldn’t dare back out onto it!) The problem is actually due to the fact that some states only have a rear license plate. Perhaps the solution if for all to have both front and rear plates. Someone should sue the state for that if they get cited.
I back in ... for the children....
New York does.
Home owners will have 60 days to demolish their garage. If they don't do it in that time the State will do it for them? Well, that's one possibility.
We live in a farming area, seems farmers can almost drive better backwards than forwards. The pickups in parking lots are almost always facing out.
