Governor Greg Abbott today released the following statement regarding the Supreme Courts same-sex marriage ruling:
The Supreme Court has abandoned its role as an impartial judicial arbiter and has become an unelected nine-member legislature. Five Justices on the Supreme Court have imposed on the entire country their personal views on an issue that the Constitution and the Courts previous decisions reserve to the people of the States.
Despite the Supreme Courts rulings, Texans fundamental right to religious liberty remains protected. No Texan is required by the Supreme Courts decision to act contrary to his or her religious beliefs regarding marriage.
The Texas Constitution guarantees that [n]o human authority ought, in any case whatsoever, to control or interfere with the rights of conscience in matters of religion. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees the free exercise of religion; and the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act, combined with the newly enacted Pastor Protection Act, provide robust legal protections to Texans whose faith commands them to adhere to the traditional understanding of marriage.
As I have done in the past, I will continue to defend the religious liberties of all Texansincluding those whose conscience dictates that marriage is only the union of one man and one woman. Later today, I will be issuing a directive to state agencies instructing them to prioritize the protection of Texans religious liberties.
“Remember the Alamo!”
Please don’t advocate murder for such a thing.
Abraham Lincoln once asked a group of men, How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg?
Lincoln then answered his own question this way, Only four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it one.
That usually promptly ends the debate.
I hope your right, but with this bunch everything they do is planned, and look what just happened in Waco there was former Military and Swat involved with that fiasco.
Anybody supporting fag-marriage is as expendable as an ISIS jihadi in my book.
Sounds so good to me. Let's pray it is never tested.
Bump.
TThe first time that anybody in Texas gets into legal trouble for opposing gay marriage, we better see the Texas governor backing up that person. When I see that happen, then I can say that, yes, Abbott means what he says. And, I hope I can say that. But I’ve got to see action first.
Well I am located right in the middle of a lot of stuff coming to a head. Those two motorcycle gangs that shot up Waco, the chapters involved came from west central Texas. And some of us in west Texas think east Texans are too Yankee lol. Things will get more chaotic going forward. The police forces right now are really concerned with ISIS. They really should concentrate on that and less time on the motorcycle gangs.
So you would violate one of God’s commandments to uphold another? I don’t think that is supposed to be how it works. In fact, I think it would be much better if you were to put your faith and trust in God who is working His will in this situation, as hopeless as it may seem to you at the moment.
It may be right around the corner to push for one of two things: #1 A convention of the state’s or #2 peaceful secession.
It might be time for a partition of the United States. I mean, if you have two totally opposed visions of government, how can you continue together?
Several years ago on VFR (a banned website here, sorry) there was a discussion on the partition issue, with some concrete proposals. I recommend you google that website
and check it out.
Do not worry much about Jade Helm.
Just look at the news. ISIS is claiming attacks on 3 continents today. Somebody better be training to stop a military style attack on the homeland because it is coming. Soon.
But the marriage licenses will be issued despite what a huge majority of the people in Texas want?
The only way to stop the marriage licenses would be massive civil disobedience with the collusion of county clerks and such. I just can’t see that happening. Prove me wrong though.
As long as it stays focused on ISIS I have no problem with it.
Yes, twice! The only way gay marriage takes place was because it was adjudicated. The majority of CA voters are against changing the legal definition of marriage.
Sure wish my NV Gov. would man up and follow Abbott's lead but he's more of a Boehner Republican.
I’m thankful for Governor Abbott-I’m hoping he will devise a way for Texas to avoid/ignore this crap, and shove it right back at SCOTUS-I don’t even care how drastic it is.
This needs to be repeated over and over. Six members of this Court are hard core communists liberals and will create laws instead of interpreting the law according to the Constitution.
