GETTYSBURG (Reuters) - The U.S. National Park Service began removing Confederate flag merchandise from its bookstores and gift shops on Thursday, joining a nationwide push by lawmakers and retailers to remove the emblem, long associated with the fight to preserve slavery.
Kathy Kupper, a national parks spokeswoman, said she doesn't know how many parks had previously sold Confederate flag merchandise, but about 70 of the organization's 407 parks are related to the American Civil War.
We strive to tell the complete story of America, National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis said in a press release. Any stand-alone depictions of Confederate flags have no place in park stores.

They, for the present, are targeting “stand alone” confederate items which are for sale. In federal controlled shops. The townspeople who have shops are not under directive YET. I spoke with the Mayor at length. He seems a good sort, but I don’t think he understands the significance. He seems to think it will all die down and go back to normal - I don’t agree with him.
Anyone who buys a Union flag at this point is a fool.
The other day I was moving some old things and I found a small US flag (I have a collection of small flags); it has 48 stars on it. It is the newest flag I will ever own (unless I could get something for it on Craigslist)...
Damn. Er, I mean darn.
Do you actually think the author attribution is correct?
People really should see the battleground atop Lookout Mtn, TN.
They have huge memorials from the North and South. The movie show with very dramatic displays show how the battle took place.
I will not drop the dime on the Northern Captain that took it upon himself to attack the retreating flank. He forced the cannons of the surrendered to turn the cannons on those fleeing. Quite a time.
FWIW, the General Lee model car is still available on Amazon.
Liberals are SO STUPID it hurts.
Just an educated guess? :^)
Say what? Do you not recognize the difference between the operations of a death camp by armed NAZIS committing murder upon a civilian and unarmed population, and that of enemy combatants engaged in legitimate warfare aka the Union and Confederate Armies?
There is a difference.
If we elected a Republican in 2016, would he order these put back on the shelf?
No....I don’t even think Cruz would do that. It’s over. The war was lost by the South and the majority of the United States think it is time to stop celebrating failure. I wonder if the Japanese still celebrate losing WW II. We have the good part of the Civil War and that is states rights so it was not a total loss.
That’s not at all what they plan. You will see even more books about the evils of the CSA.
What you won’t see are books or emblems, such as the flag, that imply the CSA may have had something to it other than pure evil.
Guess on, guesser.
Do you actually think it’s a big deal? I excerpted the source, and included the link. Maybe you should contact the MODS and tell them.
Frankly, it was a simple mistake in not being used to the posting process on FR. But, by all means - freak on out.
!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m not freaking in, out or otherwise.
I just asked if you were indeed the author, as you indicated.
As regards “freaking”.. it is you who are using multiple exclamation points.
Do you have any Civil War stories to share?
Same here, except my family arrived in 1648 and I too have great-grandfathers that fought on both sides of the war.
And anything remotely identifying anything Confederate. They’ll next make the word “Confederate” the latest “N” word.
Nah, I was drunk the whole time.
Aren’t CSA soldiers buried there also? They gonna dig them up and move them?
Thats better off than 99% of those soldiers in the midst of hell.
