Bob Beckel is no longer a Fox News employee, a network spokesperson confirmed to Mediaite on Thursday afternoon.
Best-known as the salty liberal panelist on Fox’s hit midday talk show The Five, Beckel has been off-the-air since February 16. His absence was surrounded by mystery for several months until the network confirmed that he had undergone back surgery and, later, that he had also sought rehabilitation therapy for addiction to prescription pain medication.

I agree. The Five was better with Bechel. He was a good foil for the others plus he had better insight into political campaigns than any of the others. I read between the lines of Fox’ statement that he was canned for substance abuse despite Fox’ attempts to help him rehabilitate.
The Fox News statement does sound a bit harsh

There was a time when Beckel was very edgy. On the FoxNews panel, he was less edgy. He would disagree, but he moderated considerably.
What I suspect is that we’ll get someone much more edgy, that will be more effective in confusing people.
Not good in the long term.

I will miss him on The Five. He was entertaining. I almost never agreed with his positions, but I liked to watch him.
Juan is the worst. Worse than Comes. They should get Snake Head to join the group. Now that would be entertaining.

I suspect he needed rehab long before the back problem. There were times on “The Five” he was slurring his words so badly he very likely downed a fifth before stepping into the studio.

I’m glad he’s gone. He was on a talk show to discuss significant current events and he refused to talk about Benghazi. He was getting paid to address the issue and he just flat-out refused to do his job. He should have been fired a lot earlier for his on-air profanity, disrespect to coworkers and left-wing stupidity. Good riddance.
