Timesheets for employees of Amtrak are riddled with abuse, according to a recent audit report, with cases of workers claiming over 40 hours of work in a single day.

The audit released by Amtrak’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) Thursday found examples of abuse in the overtime system, which totaled nearly $200 million in overtime pay last year.

It’s because the “high-speed” Acela travels faster than the speed of light. From the frame of reference of the payment processor, the employees on the train can work 40 - 50 hours in a single day.

Typically in a government job....after you fill out your timecard.....your boss reviews it, and then some guy on the next level will see it. You do more than 40 hours of work a week....there’s a second set of eyes on the timecard. In terms of forty hours achieved....at least within DoD’s system.....you can’t work more than twenty-four hours in one single day. These guys must have a screwed-up system that allows just about anything to occur.

A simple computer notice should be an easy insert such that mutliple higher ups
have to approve certain levels of daily overtime. Or it would seem so to me.

Was on a train this month and it stopped to let some of the crew off because they are not allowed to work more than 12 hours per shift.
No wonder Amtrak hasn’t made a profit in 40 years.

That’s nothing! I had to get up in the morning at ten o’clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah.

There is no incentive for government efficiency when government has an unlimited authority to print and borrow money. The next debt ceiling debate is September.

Thank you GOP congress. Not.

“It’s because the “high-speed” Acela travels faster than the speed of light”

So Friday morning they travel back in time to Monday. Then come back by quitting time Friday. There’s 40.
