As a general matter, I agree (as did Ronald Reagan) that free trade is good for America; when we open up foreign markets, it helps American farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers. But TPA in this Congress has become enmeshed in corrupt Washington backroom deal-making, along with serious concerns that it would open up the potential for sweeping changes in our laws that trade agreements typically do not include. Since the Senate first voted on TPA, there have been two material changes. First, WikiLeaks subsequently revealed new troubling information regarding the Trade in Services Agreement, or TiSA, one of the trade deals being negotiated by Obama. Despite the administrations public assurances that it was not negotiating on immigration, several chapters of the TiSA draft posted online explicitly contained potential changes in federal immigration law. TPA would cover TiSA, and therefore these changes would presumably be subject to be fast-track. When TPA last came up for a vote, both Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)80% and I introduced amendments that would have barred fast-track treatment for any trade agreement that attempted to impact immigration law. Two other Republican senators objected, and we were both denied votes on our amendments. Instead, the House inserted substantially weaker language in related legislation.

Good for you! I could stand to do more praying as well. Thanks for reminding me of Who is really in control here. When I say I trust Cruz, I mean I trust the One he looks to for guidance.
He changed it because he saw that votes were being bought in the Senate.
You assume that some of us are against Cruz.
Many of us believe giving more power is not the way to go.
I’m for Cruz but I am and have been against Obamatrade.
Actually, it should be called the GOP Trade Bill.
The GOP now owns it.
It takes character to do what he did here, I think. So many others would just barrel on but Im glad he didnt. Hes one of the few Im willing to give the benefit of the doubt on because hes proven himself elsewhere.
He had my support before, and he has it now."
Well said. Yet you have ankie-biters yapping about him then and still yapping now.
Seems Cruz is damned either way with some, but I don't give a rip. I'm sticking with him.
Just like a Liberal.
I can see you can accuse other's of being 'troll's and 'Liberals' but when it comes back to you, you whine
Or do you think Obama can be trusted to do what is in the best interests of the U.S. in the next 15 months?
You're right about that.
You can lay out the facts of Trump's liberalism, and his supporters here will either ignore it or try to rationalize and excuse it.
Last night, one of them told me that he hated Obamacare, but socialized healthcare under Trump might be better.
I never thought a Tea Party guy would vote FOR Obama.
Stupid? Coming from someone who fawns over that liberal clown, Trump.
LOL
Yet just upthread:
"Im now waiting for an apology from every Cruz supporter that insulted me"
Pot,kettle, and all that...don't you think?
I was wrong. They had two extra votes.
But Cruz did nothing and argued that everyone was wrong.
Cruz was wrong.
Now that it is too late, he votes against it.
This is what Cruz did on giving Obama authority to lift sanctions on Iran. He spoke out against it, voted for it, then spoke out against it again.
Ah, yes, the threats from the Cruz apologists to run to Jim and ask us to be banned.
If you were in charge of the IRS you would probably support using them against us as well.
Why can't you just admit that Cruz screwed up and went against good conservative principles?
It doesn't disqualify him in my eyes for POTUS, if he can win the nomination. It just shows he is flawed and not this Messiah some Cruz supporters tried to make him out to be.
Fact-Cruz voted for the original TPA which would have given Obama fast track authority.
What part did I miss?
But you cannot admit he was wrong!
Here you go:
https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/senate-bill/615/cosponsors
Now here is how you can do it the next time for yourself. If you use Google, or Bing or some other search engine, put in the search terms “congressional record iran deal 2015”. You put ‘congressional record’ so that you avoid all the MSM disinformation, like Politico, WAPO, etc.
On the link I posted above you will find Senator Sessions as a sponsor. If you’re running Windows you can press Ctrl-F and type in ‘Sessions’ if you need to get right to it.
Now the whole point of mentioning a fine conservative like Senator Sessions in these threads is to point out that we cannot know why someone votes the way they do without knowing all the facts or at least enough of them. The only legitimate gripe we should have is that all these legislative bills (except TPA) have been secret. Criticizing Ted Cruz for TPP/TISA/TPIP and any other trade deals is foul in the same way that criticizing Jeff Sessions for his vote on the secret Iran deal is foul. And Ted Cruz has not even voted yet on any trade deals!
Everyone on these threads is in the dark about all these secret trade deals and Iran deal. Yet there are a few hacks that keep pounding away with all sorts of conspiracies as if they were factual.
Cruz spoke out against giving Obama the power to lift sanctions on Iran.
Rubio, Paul, Cruz vote to allow Obama to lift Iran sanctions
The Iran vote was another unconstitutional surrender of congressional power to the executive branch.
Just like TPA, it makes stopping Obama's Iran deal a 67 vote supermajority, while approval only requires 51 votes.
OK, stopping Obama's trade deals only needs 60 votes, but 51 to ratify.
That is two times that Cruz spoke out against an unconstitutional shift in power and then voted for it.
