During a press conference on Monday, Gov. Nikki Haley will ask that the Confederate flag on the grounds of South Carolina's capitol be removed, according to the Post and Courier. The move from the popular governor (reelected last year by 15 points and with 79 percent approval last April) will almost certainly help encourage the state legislature to vote for removal. As it stands, the legislature needs a two-thirds vote to make that happen -- a high bar.

States like Maryland and Missouri freed slaves, without compensation, in late 1864 - early 1865. And the 13th Amendment freed any that were left, also without compensation. So at the end of the day the YANKEE SLAVE HOLDERS INCLUDING BLACK SLAVEHOLDERS were affected too.
Yankees, not southerners made FORTUNES off the Slave trade as did FOREIGN companies.
Southerners were involved in the slave trade. And, of course, Southerners made a fortune off the slaves they bought.
Had the south, an agricultural economy,been recompensed for their losses so that they could buy agricultural machinery at UNTAXED(Tariff) prices, the war would never have happened.
I have no idea what point you're aiming at here. But I think you're missing it by a wide margin.

Hate, yes. But crime? No, not at all. The First Amendment protected him, so ironically Innes Randolph was protected by that very Constitution he hated so much. And, more irony, he also spent the rest of his post-war life making a very good living in the Republic he detested. Like so many Rebs then and now, he talked a good game but when push came to shove he stayed right in the good ol' USA.

The federal government IS supreme in its sphere. That’s what the Supremacy Clause means. And in fact Americans have all sorts of rights, most of which come out of the US constitution. You would know how lucky we are if you studied history or traveled abroad. You assume that State government will be milder than the national government. Note that in the name of “states’ rights” the South enslaved millions of people and for many years denied the descendants of those people basic human rights. Both evils had to be addressed by the national government.

No, if that flag is kept, the real Southern heritage is going to be buried. Just take it down as a statehouse flag and work on transforming the image.
The press has never liked it and now they have found the perfect way of destroying it. But I still think that was because a lot of supporters of the Cinfederate flag didn’t get out there and separate it from the race hating loonies who, like it or not, admit it or not, do consider it their symbol.
Well I just hope all those who keeps saying “get over it you lost” remember that when the libs ban the U.S. flag and smirk at them saying “get over it you lost”.
