During a press conference on Monday, Gov. Nikki Haley will ask that the Confederate flag on the grounds of South Carolina's capitol be removed, according to the Post and Courier. The move from the popular governor (reelected last year by 15 points and with 79 percent approval last April) will almost certainly help encourage the state legislature to vote for removal. As it stands, the legislature needs a two-thirds vote to make that happen -- a high bar.

All that is absolutely true. But my point is that the prominent association between Roof’s horrendous act and the confederate flag is the only thing people will remember. So take the flag away, and if its devotees want to rebuild the brand by associating it with good things, they Should certainly do do.
Where did I cave? I want Democrats to own the confederate flag.
I’m tired of the misinformation on that flag, which party put it on the state flag and why that party did it.
lol....funny. Ok I am ok with your post except Justin Bieber and Kardashians....I don’t like them but I don’t bash them especially Bieber......I just don’t like bashing people. I am a married dad of 4 children from 17 to 7....Anniversary 20 years in April 2016.....you made me chuckle too. Have a great one.
You’ve got your tail in a twist over nothing. My POINT was that the Courts have held that the First Amendment ALLOWS anyone to BURN the Strts and Stripes if they wish to. NOW it seems one cannot fly the Confederate flag IF THEY WISH TO so the First Amendment allows the destruction of the U.S. Flag under Free Speech but does not allow the free speech of flying the Confederate flag. GET IT?????
I suppose you are baffled by states rights as well then?
I Agree with you 100%.
Segregation has nothing to do with it! Educate yourself!
The issue a lot of us have with this is not so much whether the flag is appropriate, it’s because Haley waited until the Rats made the demand, then she caved. If she had said months ago that it was time to consider it, then she would have gotten credit for leading. Now, she’s caving. One takes guts, the other lacks it.
Wow, you certainly have delicate political sensibilities.
Such a victim of the heinous political crime by the Carolina governor you are...and so prone to shoot yourself in the foot in the long run.
I prophesy that you're going to be embarrassed no end when your favorite GOP primary candidate agrees with Mizz Nikki in that it was the canny thing for her to do....but then, since there's no perfect and pure GOP candidate on this mortal coil, you're going to be like Philip Nolan, the legendary "man without a country".
Meaning....if everyone like you demands 100% perfection in a conservative office holder or candidate, we're ALL gonna be without a country.

Beautifully and ACCURATELY stated!
Sure it does. The flag went up in 1961, not 1861.
Why is that?
You make a good point.
And what about In God We Trust? Is that going to be eliminated because the Atheists get in a twist?///
It will before long; all it will take is a lawsuit and a sympathetic judge.

Nikki leaps at a solution which has nothing to do with the problem; but she will win points from the pointy-headed cocktail party crowd.
The reason why so much antipathy for the CBF is because, unlike the United States flag, it represents a movement that fought to preserve and expand slavery at a time with the civilized world was turning away from it.

WRONG! The south fought to NOT be bankrupted by the north and dictated to in how to live their lives! The Freepers who disparage the Confederaate Battle Flag also scream about Washingtons dictates today. YOU CAN’T have it BOTH WAYS! 10th Amendment Yes, or No???????????????????????????????????///
Depends on what is meant by that. In a federal system such as ours, the states clearly have rights. But secession is not one of those rights.
no ... no I don’t get it. No one has said that the flag had to come down by law. The feds aren’t taking action ... the Republican Gov is suggesting it be taken down. How in any possible way does this impact the 1st Amendment?
And where does it say that you ... personally .... cannot fly your freak flag anywhere you want? :)
Then the Fed reigns supreme. You have no rights.
