I met a young woman at the range one day as she was trying to learn to shoot the shotgun she bought.
Her ex-boyfriend had been stalking her and the third time deputies came to her rural house, they told this lifelong liberal opera singer that she needed to buy a gun because they may not be able to get to her in time should her boyfriend decide to attack her.
Perhaps the author of this piece should think of both sides of the waiting period coin.
>”By denying access to this lethal weapon during fits of passion we will buy valuable time that could save untold misery and grief among citizens who are normally law-abiding and rational.”<
Yeah, that’s worked. These people who push this agenda know this has nothing to do with guns. If someone goes into a “fit of passion” they can kill you with their bare hands. People are evil. People were committing murder long before there were guns. You can make all the laws you want, it won’t change a person’s heart.
Oh and governments are the only ones who can murder on a magnificent scale, which was never intended by our founders. Yet the government is who wants us to wait 48 hours.
You need to fear the government more than your neighbor.
Vermont and New Hampshire have very low homicide rates, about the same as the UK, Germany and France. What do Vermont and New Hampshire have that Wisconsin doesn't? It's NOT more gun control laws!
“I am a life-long Democrat, who voted for Barack Obama twice and who hopes to vote for Hillary Clinton for President in 2016. Like in so many Wisconsin families, the importance of the right to choose was a lesson I learned from my mother and passed on to my children. Like many Democrats, I cheered when my eldest daughter exercised her right to have an abortion, not only the first time that it happened, but also the second and third times. So anyone who could possibly question my pro-choice Democrat bona-fides would surely be mistaken.”
“However over the years it has become increasingly apparent to me and to many other Democrats of good conscience that abortion on demand has led to the dehumanization of our society. Child murder is a very real problem in Wisconsin. There has been a spike in the number of helpless children who have needlessly died in the womb in Milwaukee this year. With so many loving couples, of both genders, who would willingly adopt and raise a baby, it is senseless to permit this mass slaughter to continue.”
“At the very least, a cooling-off period and family counseling should be mandated before any woman is permitted to have an abortion. Humans are flawed and sometimes make irrational, impulsive and, ultimately deadly, choices. Little can be done to prevent this if a person has already decided to terminate the life that is growing within, but for those who have not, studies have proven that these cooling-off periods work. They can deter child murders that would have taken place if an individual had been able to walk into an abortuary, murder the child in her womb, and walk out immediately afterward without taking time to think about the finality of her actions.”
“While not being able to immediately have an abortion on demand is an inconvenience for some individuals, that inconvenience pales in comparison to the greater good of preventing those child murders that are preventable. That’s why an overwhelming majority of Americans including a majority of pro-choice Democrats like myself support a sensible waiting period before having an abortion.”
Dana Wachs is a Democratic state representative from Eau Claire.
Maybe a waiting period on that set of kitchen knives I was looking at. :-)
By denying access to this lethal weapon during fits of passion —
Yeah, that .32 Auto that I want to buy to knock off my wife (of small stature). I’d better wait, may change my mind.
Forget about the .45 already in the safe (and ‘state registered’).
Don’t want to waste the big lead bullet, I guess. Prefer smaller carbon footprint.

The writer is not getting any sympathy from the commenters.
I suspect she’s just trying to maintain her Democratic street creds with the required monthly anti-gun screed.
We here in Louisiana have the easiest ‘gun control purchasing plan’.
It is ONLY the FBI-based NICS system. There are NO other waiting periods. There are NO ‘mother-may-I’ permits to purchase. There are NO required bill-of-sales between two individuals. When it comes to buying a gun from Davidsons’, or from some other reputable out-of-state dealer, it is sent to the nearest FFL holder of choice, in the local area, and you pick it up there, for a transfer fee.
Maybe that is why the SPLC loves us so much!
Had a girls day out at a gun show. I bought a nice .40 S&W.
Supremely clever.
The little turd in South Carolina apparently purchased his pistol in April. So much for waiting periods.
The absolute idiocy of this piece is that there is no waiting period for any long guns in Wisconsin. If someone wants to, they can go to a store and buy an AR-15, semi-auto shotgun and take it home as soon as they pass the background check.
Secondary irony is the mention of the grandfather giving the shotgun to the son. Democrats want that to be illegal as well.
Looks like he has never been attacked by a dear or raped by a bear. I picked up a Springfield XDs 9mm. yesterday and I was in the gun store 20 minutes tops. Love GA. and my CCL!
This fool thinks because a deer has never stalked and tried to kill him, he can’t fathom why anyone else would need a gun without waiting days for it.
With today’s data retrieval systems there is no reasonable need for a waiting period.
I did not read the entire article. Did WI see a per capita decline in gun crimes after the bill?
--other than that Wisconsin usually has a homicide rate similar to places such as northern Europe---
The letter L in CCL means license. That is an infringement upon your second amendment right. If Georgia, Lord forbid, or the federal government decides that confiscation is the order of the day, you are on the list.
But it beats the hell out of my state of New Jersey, where you have to "prove a need" to carry to even obtain a rights-infringing permit. Unless you're 'connected", you're not getting one.
“I am a lifelong hunter and gun owner.”, but I am an idiot.
