What legal purpose was served by the bereaved’s statements?

Why aren't they allowed to say their feelings? Why would you punish them more?

The same reason they are ‘punished’ by not being allowed to cut him, beat him, kill him or even throw things at him.
The presumption of innocence in court.
Their feelings had nothing to do with setting bail.

It was such a beautiful display of Christianity. They were showing their Christian love and honoring their dead.

Much better Christians that I will ever be.

I'm glad the Judge let these people honor their loved ones and profess their faith. It's such a contrast to the Muslim religion.
