Dylann Storm Roof has confessed to entering a South Carolina church on Wednesday night and shooting dead nine people at their weekly bible study meeting, telling investigators that he wanted to 'start a race war', according to reports.
The 21-year-old admitted to Charleston police and the FBI that he was behind the massacre, law enforcement officials told CNN on Friday. He also told them that he bought the .45-caliber handgun himself; a family member had previously said the gun was a birthday gift from Roof's father.
His roommate has also revealed that Roof, who is white, had been planning the attack for six months, and had wanted to start a 'civil war' before killing himself. Another friend has revealed that Roof complained that black people are 'taking over the world' and said someone to do something about it for the sake of 'the white race'.
On Thursday, following an overnight manhunt, Roof was arrested in Shelby, North Carolina after a tip from a member of the public and he was extradited back to South Carolina last night...
He is now on suicide watch in jail, as per protocol, Charleston County Sheriff's office spokesman Major Eric Watson told ABC News. He is being housed separately from the rest of the inmates for his own safety and a bail hearing has been set for today, Watson said.
On Friday, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley told the Today show that 'we will absolutely will want him to have the death penalty'. His uncle added to ABC News that, if he does get the death penalty, he 'will push the button myself'.
'I'll be the one to push the button. If he's found guilty, I'll be the one to push the button myself,' Carson Cowles said. 'If what I am hearing is true, he needs to pay for it.'..

On the contrary, he'll be in administrative segregation (I think they used to call that solitary confinement) so the blacks in prison won't get an opportunity to save the state some money.
The two children of a 45 yr old women who was killed came out and said that they have “forgiven you (Roof) for what her has done and there is nothing but love from their family”.
I have never understood this forgiveness from victim’s family members in the past but I think they know, much better than me, that they must live the life of their faith for their salvation. They are much better people than I will ever be.

S.C. just became one of the states for me to consider moving to when I'm finally able to escape Maryland.

This is South Carolina. Our Gov., Nikki Haley, will make it her sole purpose to open up an express lane to execution for this little bastard.

Come on down! We live 30 miles north of the Charleston downtown area in great little town called Summerville. Cost of living is the best that Husband and I have ever seen in all of our years stationed on the East and West coasts. You have to be able to handle the HOT and HUMID summers though. They are oppressive. Great place to finally retire.

I think it would depend on the conviction. If it is first degree murder then yes he will likely be executed. But if it is second or third degree because of the influence of anti depressants, then possibly not. John Hinckley and Squeaky Fromm attempted to assasinate a President and they are both still lingering in confinement.
A firearm changes all that. I don't think Alvin York was much bigger than that and he killed 6 German soldiers storming his position using a .45 semi-auto handgun. (his rifle had run out of ammo)

my version of suicide watch would be to give him a loaded gun in a bullet proof cell with cameras recording him shoot himself in the head. Two birds with one stone - riding the world of such a cancer AND saving millions of dallars in the process.
Chicago is has been rotten to the core for so long it’s probably irredeemable. I just read a story in the new Mopar Action about a guy who bought a 1971 Dodge Challenger with a shaker hood - one of 11. It’s didn’t have plates and while he went to get his car trailer the city impounded it. The police claimed to not know who towed it or where it was. He finally tracked down the tow company and the lot where it was. But the lady at the lot gate wouldn’t let him in - nor would her supervisor. He had the title - everything so the supervisor finally relented. So he goes to the lot with his two kids and there’s like 2000-3000 cars there! After hours of looking he finally found it, barely recognizable because it had been stripped! In the police impound lot!! It took him the next 15 years to collect all the right parts to get the car back to what it was before the police impounded the car.
This took place in 1983, so Chicago has been rotting that long at least.
I’ve always avoided driving by Chicago. Last fall my son and GF moved to Cincinnati and through Chicago each missed $9 of tollway fees. With the penalty added each had to pay $120. The system was so messy they hadn’t even realized they missed tolls. Last Christmas I broke down and we came back from visiting our son via Chicago. Those tolls are an absolute racket - every few miles we had to stop and pay a toll. The tolls cost three times the cost of the gas it took to drive through. That is on a road that the government paid for in the first place.
I have a negative desire to ever be anywhere near Chicago.
What an excruciatingly wicked thing to do, but there is yet something to be said for honesty about it.
