US Catholics ready to follow Pope's 'marching orders' on climate change
MSN news ^ | June 18, 2015 | Suzanne Goldenberg

Leaders of the Catholic Church in America took their “marching orders” from the Pope’s encyclical on Thursday, fanning out to Congress and the White House to push for action on climate change.

The high-level meetings offered a first glimpse of a vast and highly organised effort by the leadership of America’s nearly 80 million Catholics to turn the Pope’s moral call for action into reality.

“It is our marching orders for advocacy,” Joseph Kurtz, the president of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Archbishop of Louisville, said. “It really brings about a new urgency for us.”

Lots of non Catholics are convinced the Pope is the Church and that he speaks infallibly on everything from toe nail clippers to air conditioners. He is not and he does not. There are a lot of crazy people in the world and evidently our Pope us teetering on that line. Catholics are not bound by idiotic pantheistic encyclicals any more than you are.

Thank you ever so much, dear Elsie, for illuminating the relevant scriptural passages. I do not claim to be a scholar of Holy Scripture, only a student of it. So thank you ever so much for your insights.

Since it is abundantly clear to me that you are one of the few (really) expert "go-to" expositors of Holy Scripture around here, I wonder whether I might ask you a favor? Thought I have looked, I have not yet found any direct divine proscription of Lesbianism in the Holy Bible. Yet it is very, very clear to me that God has expressly condemned, on numerous occasions, homosexual behavior — that is, man–man sex — in holy scripture. And not only that, but also "onanism" (i.e., masturbation).

But the Lord does not seem to have mentioned the "woman–woman" expression of homosexuality. At least, I haven't been able to locate any mention in scripture about this. Can you give me a relevant cite???

This is not a prurient interest of mine, nor an idle one. A close family relation is involved.

Absent a scriptural cite, I can only reason as follows. The Lord expressly condemns anal sex, as well as masturbation. What these two different acts have in common is their absolute futility to the purpose of generating new human life. Which is the biological (and I daresay spiritual) purpose of human sex as the Lord intended it.

Reasoning from there, I would hypothesize that, although God does not condemn Lesbianism directly, the fact that female–female sexual relations are absolutely incapable of producing offspring would entail that such relations are also condemned by God.

What I ask you, dear Elsie, is: Do you have a scriptural citation that goes directly to this problem? If you do, it could be enormously helpful to me in my conversations with my sister and her partner.

Thank you ever so much for writing, dear sister in Christ!

..."who am I to judge?" as an endorsement of gay pride....

I am perplexed: Exactly what is it, of which gays are so "proud?" That they have sex a certain way???

This is idiocy resplendent....

Jeepers dearest sister in Christ, I am beginning to feel that I have been commandeered to live in a madhouse, an insane asylum — one in which the patients are in control; the madmen are holding the keys....

This has absolutely nothing to do with whether people are Protestant or Catholic. Intelligent Protestants and Catholics will not be deceived. Stupid Protestants and Catholics will be deceived.

That’s why this is a BAD POPE. It is an abuse of the authority of the Papacy to publish one’s PERSONAL OPINIONS with all the trappings normally associated with the teaching of the Church.

If people (Protestant or Catholic) are superficial and obtuse, they will see the trappings (”It’s an encyclical!”) and think it’s Catholic teaching.

If people (Protestant or Catholic) have sufficient intellect to read what the Pope actually SAID, they will know that nothing he said falls under the subject matter of the Catholic Faith.

In short: The Pope will be able to deceive stupid Protestants and Catholics. The Pope will not deceive intelligent Protestants or Catholics.

Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Romans 1:24&26 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: ... For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

Romans 1:26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

And of course, there is the general prohibition in Acts 15 against sexual immorality, that is, those things already revealed as sexually hurtful along with anything else that would be hurtful.

Therefore, since a "man shall leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh" describes the nature of healthy sexuality, anything that doesn't allow the potentiality of that ideal (one flesh = the two combined = child) is unnatural relations.

The Catholic Church, and orthodox Christianity in general, are facing worldwide persecution as we speak. Look at what has been done worldwide to the institution of marriage just in the last ten years

You are right, unfortunately. Here is yet another piece of evidence. What I meant is that the Church won't be thrown to the lions; no army would be sent to conquer Vatican; and the Pope won't be arrested and executed. What's happening is a careful, well planned corruption of the Church from all corners at the same time. The corruption was first shown with the middle level clergy; then attacks against traditions started; then a Socialist Pope had been installed. This is also persecution - but of the new, soft and kind type; in the end, though, the Church will be destroyed. It will be destroyed not by killing believers, but by turning believers into amoral hedonists.

If the SUBJECT MATTER of the Pope’s pronouncement has nothing to do with the Faith, then NO assent is required.

Which the pope clearly sees the issues he addresses as having, as is obvious, but which is contrary to your judgment. If the obedience of every RC is dependant upon whether they judge something to be a teaching on faith and morals, which the pope presents this as being, as pertains to social issues, and or whether it is consistent with RC faith, then they foster disunity, and are doing what they criticize others for doing.

The Pope says the Earth is warming. I know it is not. What is MORE important is, I know that the Catholic Church does not and cannot teach about the temperature of the Earth.

Then you have hardly read any of the encyclical. The pope does agree with the opinion of multitudes of scientists who promote Climate Change, but you consider your judgment to be superior (and likely is). But under the premise that it is true then the pope applies Catholic teaching in dealing with it.

The pope addressees other issues as well, and likewise applies Catholic teaching in dealing with them.

For you to assert this encyclical has nothing to do with the Cath faith is absurd, and impugns your own judgment.

When the Pope says something about the teaching of the Catholic Church, THEN, and ONLY THEN, is any assent required, any “religious submission of mind and will, etc.

He has, and thus assent required.

Simple. I disagree with the Pope about a matter (Is the Earth warming?) on which the Catholic Church teaches NOTHING.

No, you rejected the entire encyclical as having nothing to do with Catholic faith, and were shown to be wrong, and which deals with more than Climate Change, but how Catholic faith is to respond to that as well as other societal dangers on which the Catholic church has addressed.

And there was a time that the Catholic church taught nothing ministerially about the sun being the center of the universe, interpretive of Scripture. After it did, even if not infallibly, then it became a matter of obedience. Now it is spoken about Climate Change, but you consider your judgment superior to the pope. And Pius X did not limit obedience to the pope to infallible teaching. No wonder you are called a Protestant. You disagree with the Pope on matters on which the Catholic Church teaches infallibly.

No, it is not simple at all, as in both cases the basis for our disagreement is that of personally examining the evidence for such from our authoritative sources. In so doing we reject as valid teaching the novel premise of ensured magisterial infallibility, as being absent and non-essential in Scripture to provide, discern and preserve faith. You likewise reject certain teachings as being as being valid teaching due to personally examining the evidence for such from your authoritative sources.

Romans 1:24-29 for the ‘ladies’.

Onan was not about masturbation; but failing to fulfill a REQUIREMENT.

Genesis 38:8-10
Then Judah said to Onan, “Sleep with your brother’s wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to raise up offspring for your.

Time to post a bunch of them I guess....

Genesis 13:13
Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

Genesis 18:20-21
20. Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and
their sin so grievous
21. that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."

Genesis 19:4-7
4. Before they had gone to bed, all the men
from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.
5. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them
."
6. Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him
7. and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing.

Psalms 12:8 The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men.

Doonesbury Cartoon for Feb/08/2013

Isaiah 3:9 The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.

2 Peter 2:13b Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

Ezekiel 16:49-50
49. "`Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
50. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

2 Peter 2

1. But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.
2. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.
3. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
4. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;
5. if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
6. if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;
7. and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men
8. (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--
9. if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.
10. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings;
11. yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord.
12. But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.
13. They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done.
Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

But there IS hope!!!

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

9. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
10. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

If you could NOT change, you would be in most pitiful shape...
