Anne Nicol Gaylor, one of the founders of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, died Sunday. Gaylor, 88, formed the group with her daughter Annie Laurie Gaylor in 1976 in Madison and is credited with expanding the small group to a large national association of atheists and agnostics while serving as its president from 1978 to 2004. She ain't free from it any more!

The death of any person encourages some thinking about how they lived and what they considered important. No one really knows the place of her departed soul, but we do know the the priorities her life. I can’t celebrate her passing, but neither can I celebrate her life.

Anne Nicol Gaylor (November 25, 1926 - June 14, 2015) was an American atheist and reproductive rights advocate. She co-founded the Freedom from Religion Foundation and an abortion fund for Wisconsin women. She wrote the book Abortion Is a Blessing and edited The World Famous Atheist Cookbook. In 1985 Gaylor received the Humanist Heroine Award from the American Humanist Association, and in 2007 she was given the Tiller Award by NARAL Pro-Choice America.

I’m sure that she will be justly rewarded for her efforts.
