KOKOMO, Ind. - Police in Kokomo are investigating the fatal shooting of a robbery suspect by a police officer at a gas station southeast of the city.
Police say a ten-year veteran of the Kokomo Police Department responded to the report of an armed robbery at the Casey's General Store at Dixon Road and Defenbaugh Street around 5:30 p.m. Friday. The officer got to the scene to find a female suspect pointing a handgun at the store clerk.
The officer ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, at which point, the woman pointed the gun at the officer. The officer fired shots, striking the suspect.
The officer then called for medical assistance for the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect's name is being withheld, pending notification of family members. The officer involved in the shooting also has not been identified.
No one else was reported injured at the scene.

UPDATE:
Kokomo officer involved in Friday night shooting identified
KOKOMO, Ind. - Kokomo police have released the name of the officer involved in Friday night's deadly shooting.
Our newsgathering partners at The Kokomo Tribune report Roy Smith is a 10-year veteran officer.
Police say he shot a 17-year-old girl who was pointing a gun at a gas station clerk during an attempted robbery. This happened inside Casey's General Store on Dixon Road.
The teenager's name has not been released.
Investigators say her weapon was later determined to be a type of air gun.
The Howard County prosecutor will now review the case.
She chose... poorly.
Good point.
It’s heading in the direction that the perps will shoot first because of the hesitation of the cops.
I was referring to the comments to different local news articles. Not FReepers
Chicks Lives Matter!!!!
I’m pretty sure this PD doesn’t have body cams, but I could be wrong.
But I’m pretty sure this store has security cams that will tell the story.
The Lone Ranger could shoot from the hip and knock a gun out of an outlaw’s hand.

Better was the ‘twin canyon ride” with Riflemen on both banks, firing away at the hero and missing while he, with his trusty SIX shooter, picks off and/or wounds 35 or so.
Now that is some fancy shootin’.
Just in case she wasn’t, let’s just all agree that she was a lovely young lady, kind and polite, saving to go to college to study something that would allow her to save half of mankind, and just stopped in to share the Word with the clerk on her way from church to visit seniors in a rest home.
Gun? What gun?
Another sister of a Son of Barack?
Can’t say for sure how many black officers the KPD has, but it is relatively few. I know for a fact the County Sheriffs Dept has only one, because I’ve talked with him on a couple of occasions
Doing stupid stuff has consequences .... sometimes fatal consequences.
Where did I say FReepers opposed it?
AFAIK, this is the first article on this, so no FReeper has had a chance to weigh in until now.
I was referring to the comment sections of the different local news articles.
Actually, there are. But they’re out in der country on the other side of town.
Rumor is, the girls family is well known in the area and has mental issues. But again, that is just from the comments on FB and and from comment sections on local news, so I take it with a grain of salt.
But it sounds like this time the perp may not be one of Obamas kids.
You may very well be right.
Uh..it was reviewed and specifically responded to. It’s what generated my response.
If there is something, quote it/post it.
That will apply if she’s black. If she’s white, we will hear no more of the situation.
Which I guess means white lives don’t matter.
Well that clears things up. Ya see there are a lot of folks on here who will defend government law enforcement regardless of the event or incident.
This is one of those incidents where based on the report, no one on this site should be defending the suspect, IMO.
I'm sure you're aware, when someone is attempting to rob someone at gun point, they need to be eliminated or neutralized. By a law abiding citizen or cop, whoever has the first shot or opportunity.
Using a BB gun or whatever by the suspect is really meaningless from the defenders standpoint in these types of robbery incidents.
Ah, gee, she aimed her gun at the cop? How stupid can you be? Dead stupid evidently.
The cop had the right here to shoot the suspect regardless if the suspect pointed the weapon at the cop or continued pointing the gun at the clerk. I personally would have never asked/requested the suspect to drop their weapon in this incident. The suspect needed to be immediately neutralized in this case. Either way, based on the report, this was a legitimate shoot.
