Sessions: ‘A Vote for TAA Next Week Is a Vote to Send Fast-Track to The President’s Desk’

U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) warns:

It appears there will be another attempt by Tuesday to force through new executive powers for President Obama. A vote for TAA next week is a vote to send fast-track to the President’s desk and to grant him these broad new executive authorities. If that happens, it will empower the President to form a Pacific Union encompassing 40 percent of the world’s economy and 12 nations—each with one equal vote. ... Fast-track will not only apply to the Pacific Union, but can expedite an unlimited number of yet-unseen international compacts for six years. There are already plans to advance through fast-track the Trade in Services Agreement, the goal of which includes labor mobility among more than 50 nations, further eroding the ability of the American people to control their own affairs.

Americans do not want this, did not ask for it, and are pleading from their hearts for their lawmakers to stop it.

The same people projecting the benefits of leaping into a colossal new economic union could not even accurately predict the impact of a standalone agreement with South Korea. The latter deal, which promised to boost our exports to them $10 billion, instead only budged them less than $1 billion, while South Korea’s imports to us increased more than $12 billion, nearly doubling our trading deficit. This new agreement will only further increase our trading deficit: opening our markets to foreign imports while allowing our trading partners to continue their non-tariff barriers that close their markets to ours. ...

She was never a “managing partner” at Goldman Sachs. Did you make that up yourself or borrow it from some website? She was head of the Southwest Region in the Investment Management Division of Goldman, Sachs & Co. Sort of a “division,” “district,” or “regional” manager. I’ve been a district manager and no one ever mistook me for a managing partner, I assure you.

We’ve heard the “displaced workers” before. The truth is that re-train money went into the large cities and disappeared. I don’t know anyone who was “retrained” after that fiasco. The money just disappeared along with the jobs.

The problem is that we work and have jobs, albeit lesser pay, no benefits and job insecurity. I wish I could march on DC, but I need to work. I don’t get sick days, nor paid vacations! Many of us are in that boat.

Please, all who have the where-with-all to do so, go. Retirees, get cracking. Too many of us would lose their jobs if we took time off. If I don’t work, I don’t eat. And living on the street is not an option.

That is what one of the profiles said. Never heard the other about sw region etc.

Id like to like ted. I just have not found any sustaijable reason to trust any but a very small number of politicians.

I stand by my notation on how to not have a conflict of interest.

Wonder what would they be voting on?

12 wolves eyeballing the sheep pen and taking a vote on what's for dinner.

Anyone who sells out this nation to become POTUS needs to be stopped. I was a big Cruz supporter. Not anymore.

We can all identify with that. Another problem is it’s hard to get something organized in the summer when families take vacation. The professional community organizers on the liberal side get paid to attend their group think demonstrations. It doesn’t have to be marches. We could think about petitions, media outlets, etc.

Another problem is they are planning to take this back up on Tuesday. That’s not a good sign, since they usually don’t take something up unless they are pretty sure of the outcome. I hope I am proven wrong on Tuesday.

If we lose I would like to see a concerted effort to really go after Boehner in the next election. He needs a great Tea Party challenger. McConnell just got re-elected so we would be wasting our time there.

He was on my short list too. Not anymore. I think he miscalculated big time on this trade deal.

“Ted Cruz is a true Patriot, and an incomparable statesman. However, having graduated from Princeton and Harvard, Sen. Cruz’s doctrinaire conservatism is difficult for some to comprehend— it does take a certain I. Q. quotient.

Regrettably, those who don’t comprehend, simply lash out - and betray a vitriolic nativism.”

They said the same thing about Obama. Remember his off the chart IQ. I asked one of his supporters what it was, but of course he couldn't answer. Actually, I'm sure Ted Cruz's IQ is high, but you are confusing a high IQ with being right. I'll take Ronald Reagan's IQ any day, and he didn't graduate from Princeton or Harvard.

I bet Ted Cruz’s most trusted advisor, his father, also has a high IQ. That doesn’t make him right when he fought for Castro in the early days of the revolution.

John Boehner himself moved to reconsider the TAA measure later today, but that wide margin on TAA’s defeat, it’s still looking like Mission Impossible. “

Yeah, and then he adjourned the session until next week so they could have all weekend to bribe and threaten!

I just did more research on Cruz’s father. I like him. He tells it the way he sees it, but high IQ is certainly not a reason to believe in this secret trade agreement, that gives Obama more power and limits Congress’ ability to stop a bad treaty.

Am I the only one that’s confused by this entire fiasco? Some of the players that I normally trust are on both sides. I tend to be on the NO side simply because Obama is on the YES side.

My guess is that there is no KISS guide at this time since a big part of this remains secret for some unknown reason.

I’m thinking - once again we are screwed if this goes through.

Walker supports TPA too, as does Rubio and most other POTUS candidates who hold elected office. Since you are no longer supporting Cruz, who are you supporting now?

“Are TPP and TAA the same thing?”

No, to the best of my understanding, TAA is part of the TPA package — in other words, both TAA and TPA needed to be passed in order to send it to the President to sign into law. TAA is a program for displaced workers from trade agreements (something we shouldn’t need if these agreements actually created American jobs) that accompanies TPA, which is the “fast-track” authorization for the President to negotiate fast trade agreements.

TPP, on the other hand, is a specific trade agreement currently being negotiated, of which we are not allowed to look at the details, but Sen Sessions has apparently seen some of it and it’s very disturbing to say the least.
