Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)96%, a 2016 Republican presidential candidate, defended his decision to vote for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that would fast-track the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) and Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA)among other dealsduring a Thursday interview with the Hugh Hewitt radio program.
Hewitt started his line of questioning with coming out of a commercial. Lets take that opportunity, then, to go and talk about free tradeTPA, TPP, Export-Import Bank. Sen. Cruz, for claritys sake, can you quickly give us an overview on where you are on those three issues, as theres quite a lot of confusion among conservative voters as to where different people are and why on each of those three issues.
Sure, Cruz responded. There is a lot of confusion and, unfortunately, a lot of misinformation you can get on the Internet that people are confused, so lets explain what each of those three are.
Cruz, by saying that, was essentially making the exact same claimblaming the Internet for what he argues is misinformationas House Ways and Means Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)60%. Ryan made the claim on Fox News earlier on Thursday in response to Breitbart News reporting highlighted by the massively influential Drudge Report. Ryan, with whom Cruz pushed Obamatrade in a Wall Street Journal op-ed in late Aprilone thats been used by Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)40% to try to rally support for Obamatradehas been essentially discredited by various false statements hes made throughout this process.
That Cruz would use the same talking points as him is interesting and probably disappointing to many conservatives. That Boehner is using Cruz to push Obamatrade is probably even more disappointing to most conservatives... ...

Yeah but Cruz’s 2% regards to the worst policies possible, TPA, TPP, Freedom Act, H1B1... These are major issues to be wrong on.
They are.
Romney was wrong on ALL major issues before being for or against and then for or against them again. And people voted for him anyway.
No excuse to refuse Cruz based on that alone.
I did not vote for Romney.
Good. So why defend the mistakes that led to him?
Cruz has made a bad mistake. Siding with Obama on this trade bill says it all.
I am taking notes and watching this so called Congress. Most of them are no better than our illustrious leader in the White House. They are bought and paid for by entities that have no resemblance to the people who elected them.
I am very disappointed that Cruz chose this path. But, I am glad I found out early on in this process. No vote from me (or money).
Me?
Ted, don’t make me change my tagline.
I knew that many FReepers, given time, would begin turning on Cruz.
Isn’t it interesting that those who castigated those of us who voted for Romney in 2012, are now having a hissy fit that some are beginning to disown Cruz and may not vote for him. I guess staying home, not voting, and having a pity party when your candidate doesn’t win the primary is only noble for those who had issues with Romney. Any scrutiny of Cruz is off limits.
You folks who stayed home in 2012 set a precedence: If your guy doesn’t win...stay home!
Cry us a river.
Can Cruz explain why we are not allowed to see the bill?
“..I was very skeptical too but have done a lot of reading and it is not the monster it is being made out to be.”
So why can’t we see it, or do we have to wait until it’s passed to find out what’s in it?
Smell a rat?
[ I didnt know about that. figures.
it makes NO sense for Cruz to suddenly go against everything he believes in to vote for this. hes still my guy. ]
I am willing to give cruz ONE mulligan, but I am going to watch him like Hawk from here on out.
And that is the crux of the problem. My biggest focus right now is undermining Senor Jeb in anyway I can and see what’s left if we can make him lose.
Anyone who votes YES for any bill whose text is being kept from their own constituents is not doing their constitutional job and DUTY as a representative of the people or the state (if they are a senator)...
51 votes to pass, 60 votes to deny, and that with no amendments allowed. Yep, really above board.
[ Another poster here postulated that Cruz supported TPA because he wants the fastrack power when (if) he becomes pres. If this is the case thats deplorable. As for TPP, its secret so who knows... ]
I imagine a lot of freepers are feeling the same way someone does when they walk into a used car sales lot and see a smiling salesperson with too big of a smile who seems to friendly and we are feeling very trepidations right now, especially with congress approval levels as damned low as they are right now...
[ Ill believe Jeff Sessions on this one. The last American patriot in Congress. ]
If Cruz screws this up, I suggest we we start a “DRAFT JEFF SESSIONS” for 2016 movement.
If Cruz screws this up, ALL PARTS of the GOP are DEAD TO US ALL!
[ . If its a good thing, why keep it secret from the American people?
Bingo. Why should anything like a trade deal be a secret from the American people? It is both condescending and more likely sinister in its implications. ]
Any Rep or Senator who VOTES for ANY BILL that is having it’s deals KEPT from their Constituents BEFORE it is Voted on, IS NOT DOING THEIR DAMNED JOB!
P.S Can’t abide Huckaby.
[ We all assume Hillary will lose. If she wins and gets this power.... ]
Hell, why stop there, Why even bother having a senate or house if we hand the executive branch this much power, might as well just dissolve both houses and declare the United States of America as being dead and declaring a new “American Empire”.
And empires always ROT from within...
The Republic is so dead....
[ Typical Senator after all. ]
Senators no longer represent the states they come from, only the highest bidders...
