An angry man roughed up a customer at a Little Caesars Pizza restaurant in Salinas for making a crack about his moms weight, police said.
The ruckus started Sunday when a 50-year-old man told a woman she should not eat pizza because she was already overweight, police said.
The comment sent the woman into a rage. She went to her car to get a crow bar, but before she could get in any blows, her son punched the man several times in the head.

I remember when “your mama’s so fat....” jokes were all the craze. When she sits around the house she sits AROUND the house.
Here’s the dirty secret about all mankind: SINNERS.
If anyone has a right to barge in and tell us to get our act right because he knows every dirty secret, it’s God.
God also knows that to do this would send every soul packing to hell immediately.
That’s why there exists the weird thing called “grace.” At the very least it tries to make the best out of what it can see.
Apparently she was already pretty “thick” but the guy should learn to mind his manners.
“Likely that the son is going to prison for felony assault and battery, while the fat mama pays for the civil suit. “
It depends. There is such a thing as the “fighting words” doctrine in American law. A jury might decide that the woman and her son were minding their own business until provoked.
Even my minister says there’s a time to fight. He said you can insult or harm him but when it comes to family, it’s a different matter. He certainly believes in turning the other cheek.
As he said, the Bible tells us there is a time for war. This is no different.
As I said, I would have at least gotten in the man’s face. Where it went from there would have depended on the circumstances. It would have been better for the guy to offend me than my mother.
The whole situation is a prime example of original sin and its effects ...
Gluttony (the fat lady) ==> Pride (the arrogant stranger) ==> Wrath (the criminal son) ==> at least one person is dead, who didn't need to be.
Only Satan wins this one.
WOW! You really are Dilbert. Bucket of rocks.
That’s colorful for TV, but it boiled down to a self defense case in actuality.
>>Somehow we have to drag all public discourse down to the kind of calumny found in many courtrooms?<<
OK, just how long were you sitting on the word “calumny” before you finally could deploy it??
Tax-chick most likely joking. Lighten up!
And the gluttony wasn’t hurting more than the woman until busybodies got involved with their own self righteousness.
The whole world could benefit from watching Road House:
Steve: Being called a c***s***** isn’t personal?
Dalton: No, it’s two nouns combined to elicit a prescribed response
Steve: What if somebody calls my Mama a whore?
Dalton: Is she?
Part of why our society is breaking down is because people have been cowed into not speaking the truth.
Well he’s flaunting a piece of what the bible calls flesh there. Sorry but I call um as I see um.
>>Heres the dirty secret about all mankind: SINNERS.<<
We are all sinners — the Pharisee and Tax Collector alike. It is a shared condition and not secret.
If pizza tasted like brussels sprouts, I would not eat so much of it.
Actually, I have a stock religious lecture for such situations.
I thought that in this country a person can insult someone verbally without being assaulted.
Her weight was none of his business.....So why does the government, insurance companies and doctors get involved in other people’s business?
