Thousands of jubilant Kurds flooded the streets of Diyarbakir, south east Turkey,on Sunday, setting off fireworks and waving flags as the pro-Kurdish opposition looked likely to enter parliament as a party for the first time.
The Peoples Democratic party (HDP) said initial results from Sundays election showed it would take 80 of 550 seats, a stunning result for a party that pollsters had said would struggle to cross the required 10% threshold.
It also marks a major setback for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who had hoped for a crushing victory for the AK party he founded, allowing it to change the constitution and give him broad executive powers.

This should be a wakeup call for Erdogan and his anti-democratic approach. The Kurdish party became the champions of freedom, pluralism, and tolerance. This is a great example for Russia and the USA and any country sick of one-man rule for the sake of the self-serving clowns in charge.

This should be the first of MANY gains by the Kurds in Turkey as time goes by. Demographically, the Kurdish areas are reproducing at a higher rate than the ethnic Turks in Turkey. The Kurds finally get their time in the sun...it’s about time.

Yes, they’ve been victimized long enough. And they seem to be on of the few groups of victims that seek to remedy their plight with democracy and not more tyranny.

Don’t count on Erdogan just laying down. If he feels threatened he’ll do whatever he has to to stay in power. In the past he hasn’t been restrained by much.

Dont count on Erdogan just laying down. If he feels threatened hell do whatever he has to to stay in power. With people like Erdogan (and most dems), if democracy doesn't go their way, then it's time to end democracy.

Thanks elhombrelibre. Erdogan's recent approach has been to blame the Jews and their international conspiracy for Turkey's troubles. Turns out, that didn't seem that convincing, even to ignorant Islamofascists in the country. Erdogan has had a free hand for over a decade -- any problems Turkey has are of his making, and people are starting to wise up.

President Arrogant (Turkey) loss might give pause to President Arrogant (U.S.A.). Maybe, he (US President Arrogant) will stop being a dictator.

Why can’t we import more Kurds into this country. As a group, they are the only muslim sect that get’s it and is interested in joining the 21st century.
To: Old Teufel Hunden
I think they’d not be allowed into the USA because they take care of themselves and they’d obey the law.

google: Kurd HDP PKK Turkey
Internet sources claim a relation between HDP and PKK.. the PKK has long been identified as a terrorist group.
If the HDP intends to influence Turkish policy vis-a-vis territory claimed by the PKK then what about Armenia which claims the same territory?
Armenia has long demanded that the World hold modern Turkey guilty of the Ottoman Empire's crimes against Armenians.
The Armenians will likely target the Kurds. See New York Times article copy from those W.W.I days
Then what?
It would appear that the two "good guys" would be going after one another.
IMO the Kurdish regional government of Iraq has nothing to do with the PKK. I do not know about the HDP.

Don't be too hasty...the islamofascists may have more tricks up their kaftans...look for a 'purge' of non-islamists in Turkey soon.
