D-Day
Posted on 06/05/2015 7:02:00 PM PDT by Timocrat
At this hour in 1944 the first of the airborne troops were setting off to invade the continent of Europe. Their sacrifice gave us the freedom we enjoy today.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

Great post.
My daughter was on the beaches on the 60th anniversary when she was 17 - and it touched her deeply. I told her to be there on that day was a cooler combination of time/place than I’ve ever experienced.

Thank you for remembering. I consider myself very fortunate to have visited the beaches of Normandy in 2006. My first exposure to D-Day was going to the theater with my mother to see “The Longest Day.” I was 15 at the time.

My Dad was in the Pacific, dunno where he was based, flew nav, he never talked about it, but he did get stationed to England afterwards, got my Mom preggers, had to marry her. :) Thus I am.

Amen.
May we be worthy of their sacrifice.
If you see a Vet (from any service, from any war, from any period) shake his/her hand and say thanks...
For the WWII Generation still alive? Hugs...

Doin' the right thing. That's what it's all about, eh FRiend.
And here I am seven decades later counting the blessing made manifest, in You.
Greatest generation, tried by fire. And proud they are to have you pass it on, duty to do the right thing.
