Fox News Megyn Kelly finally aired her big, much-anticipated interview with Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, in which they opened up about their son Josh Duggars public confession that he molested several young girls, including his own sisters, when he was a teenager.
The first time it happened, they explained, was when their son came to them, crying and saying he had touched his young sisters when they were asleep. Michelle Duggar said, We had one ray of hope in that Josh had a tender conscience.
There were more instances afterwards, Jim Bob Duggar said, in which their son had inappropriately touched his sisters over their clothes and a couple of instances where he touched them under their clothes, but it was like a few seconds. And, as he noted, his sons victims didnt seem to understand what had happened to them until it was subsequently explained to them.
They got very emotional as they spoke to Duggar about how they felt they failed as parents and how they came to the decision to send their son Josh to get therapy. Later on, Kelly brought up 19 Kids and Countingwhich has been pulled but not cancelled by TLCand asked, What would make you launch a reality TV show about your family, given this past? Jim Bob Duggar said they werent worried because the records were sealed and they had dealt with all this years ago.

I couldn’t care less what you think, either. Neener neener neener.
I don’t find her attractive, but to each his or her own.
They are already neck deep. They know they are going to pay and big so they are all in for more clicks and sales.
Interesting contrast you make. I said she is pretty and you say you don’t find her attractive. I think I understand what you mean, as I find her pretty but I don’t believe I would ever be attracted to dating her. Point well taken.
Too much crazy.
Forgive me if I came across rude to you. I didn’t mean it that way. There of course are people who believe in no touching at all before marriage and that is their belief. What I really found odd is that she regrets having kissed before her wedding the man she obviously loves very much and has spent her life with. I could see regretting giving yourself to somebody in a frivolous way and having no heart or commitment to it. But in this case I do think it’s odd for her to regret a kiss with Jim Bob, but that’s just me.
What are they "repressing"? It seems to me that they live in a fishbowl.
I think they try to suppress sin without being ascetic. It's getting more and more impossible. in our 365 day carnival world. The Amish seek no attention but look at the world's glee over the fantasy of their corruption.
1 John 1:8
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
Romans 13:14
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
She used to be on the pill. Probably did more than kiss.
So....since one of their kids sinned, they should have not sought out any outlet to be a ministry?
They should’ve revealled it especially since they decided to be vocal politically. The moment one does that nothing is hidden.
I think they are certainly preaching and practicing ascetics with their children. When I make the point about repression, I am talking about the shock and disbelief Jim Bob and Michelle experienced when their adolescent son was in the hot stages of puberty and had no release and no guidance as to how to manage it. They came at it from strictly a sin perspective, probably thinking of quotes like the ones you used.
Puberty, raging hormones and wild sexual urges in an adolescent boy is not in itself sin. It is nature! The manner in which it is released may very well turn to sin and crime. It is up to the parents to give proper and loving guidance to their son. In this matter I believe the Duggar’s have a highly repressed view of normal sexuality and they did not help their son in a way that could’ve avoided much of this painful experience.
The poor kid and his poor sisters.
“...Michelle Duggar reminds me of those women who are holed up in these communes and dont learn anything about the outside world even when fullly grown. You are right that her regret over kissing before marriage is beyond odd. Very naive woman married to a very programmed man.”

Wow, just wow! I’m willing to bet that the Duggar family’s children are much more emotionally balanced, mature and trouble-free than the twirking, binge drinking, hooking up and drugging children of many of those taking this as an opportunity to attack the family.
By the way, with your dim view of chastity, how’s the twirking, hooking up, binge drinking and drugging going on among the kids near you?
They also forbid hand-holding.
That’s normal to you?
What's unChristian is idolizing a bunch of cult members to the point you're willing to bear false witness against others for not fawning all over the cultists.
Mainline mainstream, whatever, simply a distinction without a difference.
Let's just say MOST Christians, as MOST Christians apparently see nothing wrong with Contraception, Abortion, Homosexuality, gay marriage, divorce and remarriage, and damn near anything else that would have been seen as serious moral offenses only decades ago.
Hell MOST Catholics seem fine with it as well, even though the Church is adamant about these things being serious mortal sins that condemn a person to eternal Hell if they die without confessing, having true remorse and attempting to correct their behavior. Of course the World is full of people who know better, that is why there are over forty thousand Christian denominations alone. With more and more “cults” starting in empty strip malls all the time to pander to someones personal belief system.
As for the former teenager in question, you act like he sodomized his sisters nightly while his parents took pictures to post on the Internet. A little perspective would go a long way.
I can only assume you have never met a 12, 13 or 14 year old boy as your ignorance to their mental state is appalling for someone who has ever known one.
Having been a teenage boy, as well as knowing hundreds as an uncle, scout leader, coach, father, brother and fellow male member of the species as well and since I am not in a cloistered group home for pearl clutching old hens I can tell you that what he did, though wrong, is hardly an unheard of case as it isn't even seen as a serious crime and isn't even required that a report be made to the authorities. It is considered the purview of the parents. When it is reported it is turned over to DCFS for follow up if anything official is done at all.
Get out of the house and get into the real World. This type of offense doesn't rise to the level of anything close to what many if not most teenage boys are capable of. That is why we do not prosecute children and adolescents as adults or allow their records to be open to public inquiry.
As for cults. ALL religions are cults or at least they start out that way until they became mainstream and more accepted. The LDS is certainly an example, but all of Christianity was considered a cult well into the fourth century. Of course at the time Paganism was mainstream and saw nothing wrong with slavery, decimation, servile and child murder, raping and pillaging weaker nations, forced prostitution of women and children and many things we would describe as crimes against humanity. Based on recent history, we seem well on our way to a return to the ‘good old days’.
As an enlightenment to your supposed Evangelical Christianity you may be interested in actually picking up a history book or familiarizing yourself with some of the actions of people who are heroes in the Bible. Particularly those in the Old Testament, David comes to mind, but the actions of Saul of Tarsus in the New Testament would be good enough. He along with Peter actually MADE the modern Church and spread it throughout the Roman Empire and further still. Prior to his conversion he had several nasty habits.
Too bad he wasn't held to the same level as you are holding the Duggars as we could all use a little more Bread and Circus and allot less pontificating sanctimonious nonsense.
I think some of the anger is that this couple aren’t exactly representing Christians as some claim..... A look at their faith practices reminds me of the Andrea Yates couple...lots of control and expected subservient demands.
Further...the family’s put there life out there in, of all things, a reality program....(they knew their families history)....so they took the risk and here we are.
Frankly I don’t see that they were negligent in how they handled the matter with their son....rather they were fools to consider this reality show which put their family at risk should it be found out...and it was...and thus the consequences are their children are being subjected to “media abuse” and public scrutiny.
At worst they are fools who put the taste of Hollywood ahead of the welfare of the family, with the history at it was, to begin with.
...”I believe the Duggars have a highly repressed view of normal sexuality and they did not help their son in a way that couldve avoided much of this painful experience”....
I’ve looked further into the faith practices of this family and would have to agree with you.......but given that they weren’t negligent in how they handled the situation, (considering their ability to do so at the time), attempting to backtrack isn’t helping their current situation....
Also they kept saying in the video what a terrible awful horrible thing their son had done.......which simply feeds their faith practices how be it after the fact. So they appear to me to be extremists in their thinking and very black and white.
I second that.
The Duggars called the police and reported their son “back then”.
I haven’t watched any of it and never saw the show, but that was the same feeling that I got watching Elizabeth Smart’s family when she was kidnapped. You have to remember, that most people would not go on reality TV and do a show about their out sized family. It’s weird, no doubt about it, but the only reason that the media is throwing such a fit is because they claim to be Christian. The media hates Christians, they had no such reaction to the revelations about Lena Dunham molesting her sister, continuously from the time the sister was in diapers and writing the details in her autobiography. Lena Dunham still has her TV show.
