Warrants Issued for People Who Cheered at High School Graduation

SENATOBIA, Mississippi —

Several people who cheered for family members at a recent high school graduation ceremony are now facing charges for “disturbing the peace.”

Police at Northwest Mississippi Community College, where Senatobia High School’s graduation ceremony was held, said the superintendent asked the crowd not to scream and to hold their applause until the end. Linda Walker, Ursula Miller and two other people were asked to leave the ceremony because they were screaming and cheering.

“When she went across the stage I just called her name out. ‘Lakaydra’. Just like that,” Ursula Miller told WREG.

Miller said she was then asked to leave the graduation. A few weeks later, she was served papers.

Senatobia Municipal School District Superintendent Jay Foster filed “disturbing the peace” charges against the four people who were asked to leave graduation. Officers issued warrants for their arrests with a possible $500 bond.

“It’s crazy,” Henry Walker said. “The fact that I might have to bond out of jail, pay court costs, or a $500 fine for expressing my love, it’s ridiculous man. It’s ridiculous.”

Superintendent Foster declined an on-camera interview but told WREG he’s determined to have order at graduation ceremonies.

“I can understand they can escort me out of the graduation, but to say they are going to put me in jail for it,” Miller said. “What else are they allowed to do?”

The four people facing charges are expected in court Monday, June 9.

Having set up graduation events for 30 years I can attest to the selfish me generation and their “It’s all about me” attitudes.

We have for the past 10 years had to make such announcements at the beginning of the Graduates names being called and receiving their degrees. We have also put up barriers to keep the Jack Asses from walking across and in front of the platform to take pictures of “Special”. They would line up and block graduates walking off the platform delaying the process to do it. They yelling, hooting and whistling if left unchecked drowns out others names being called.

It is in some cases a very big deal for families that have never had a family member earn a degree.

However, their roots show when they act like back woods inbred hicks.

All for an Associates Degree....

I wouldn’t advocate arrest, just 100 well placed staff with Tasers.;)

Makes you wonder what would happen to graduates who walk across the stage and yell “Hi, mom!”. Wonder if they would be arrested as well.

A couple years after I graduated from Virginia Tech, a diploma showed up in the mail at my parents house. Nice that they could find me. I was overseas doing my thing.

Nearly 40 years later those bastards still call me up for donations.

LOL The problem is with grade inflation, even GPAs are meaningless now—that is why there is no respect at these ceremonies.....if they are public schools, they are completely meaningless, now.

The diploma is just a guarantee that the graduates are useful idiots, completed government brainwashing system. It is like GK Chesterton stated years ago—the only reason for mandatory “education” is to destroy Common Sense (reason) in the Common people.

JS Mill stated the same thing almost—that when the State controls “education”, it will just make slaves for the State and will never educate.

Without Excellence (Virtue), and most schools ejected Excellence and Merit decades ago for PC (Marxism—radical egalitarianism when they dumped Classical Education for socialism of Dewey)-—there is no ...um....virtue/excellence.

Having attended, or participated in about 40 or so graduations over the years, I can testify that there is one demographic group that causes 90 percent of this problem. The best way to control the problem would be to force the school officials to be honest with their grading and graduation requirements. If they did, there would be far fewer opportunities to disrupt the graduation ceremony.

What happened to decorum in public events?

Decorum and respect are related. We live in an era when people wear cut off jeans to weddings and rock band t-shirts to funerals (I've seen both). It was a short trip from inappropriate attire to incivility.

(I'm going to make a big assumption here and paint with a broad brush...) The gibmedats have no respect for others. If they had respect they would be grateful for the generosity of the taxpayers funding their existence. They would be grateful for the hard work of others in supporting them and their offspring.

Ruining the moment for others is just one more entitlement.

Forgot to add something. When a daughter graduated, you can bet your boots we yelled. You see, she had missed her whole senior year due to a severe illness. She had a home teacher and really worked hard to keep up with her classmates. It was an accomplishment she did and everyone there knew her story. Just a shame that she died in 2004 from complications of Crohn’s Disease. We all made it through June 2, her birthday. We love and miss her so much.

I’d like to go to a high school graduation where R. Lee Ermey gives the intro. “For those of you who shout out, you are nothing but unorganized grab-asstic pieces of amphibian shit! I have your name, I have your number. You had best unf**k yourself or I will unscrew your head and SHIT DOWN YOUR NECK!”

Lee is a nice guy. Met him once and was impressed.

“Is it too much to ask that Graduation Ceremonies be held with dignity and decency?”....

When you ask people with a grade school level education (or worse) to respect such ceremonies, what can you expect? Those who choose to “expound” sure as hell avoid paying attention to other laws, why then this one?

True story......A few years back I attended a graduation where several Somali’s youth had been “integrated” into the graduating class. The Somali family members LITERALLY jumped up on the chairs and seats, screaming and shouting for their “off spring” as the graduate crossed the stage. It was not a very “ceremonious” graduation and it DID happen.

While cheering for your relative is fine, air horns are just too tacky and loud.

JS Mill stated the same thing almost—that when the State controls “education”, it will just make slaves for the State and will never educate.

That was the stated intent of John Dewey the father of modern government education in the USA.

I just love R. Lee Ermey. I would love to hear him give the intro to a graduation audience, as you've described, that would shut the big mouths of those ignorant blacks. Lee take no crap from anyone.

Probably as obnoxious as Patti LaBelle. There’s a certain class of people who believe society’s norms of behavior don’t apply to them.

I travel a lot and a trend I’ve seen is the female gender of Holder’s people like to stop in the Middle of an aisle or hall, for no apparent reason , just to see if they can make me walk around them. I typically just stop then politely ask them if there is something I can help with or ask them if they’ll. let me through. It’s funny to see them pretend to be looking at or for something when they stop. They’re not conversing and just look a point on the wall or baseboards.

Every time a family acts inappropriately everybody else should boo, yes the whole audience. Shout them down.

Its been a hundred years since I graduated from anything. I didn’t bother to go to the ceremony, I let them mail me the diploma. I wasn’t much for ceremony when I was young.

But had I gone, and someone cheered for me, I can’t imagine them being arrested. Really?

In fact, every graduation I’ve attended for young relatives, people cheer. Big deal. Its their day.
