I didn't a post saying LIVE THREAD, so I decided to post one. Senator Rand Paul will likely be able to force an end to some parts of the NSA program by midnight. (1 hour 15 minutes from now)

I’m not a Rand Paul supporter. I think that Rand Paul is doing good by talking about the failures of the NSA spy program but needs to demand that we secure the border, among other things.
Midnight Eastern time is in 11 minutes.
But George Bush....
But can we just applaud him tonight for fighting for our personal freedoms. I don’t see Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz down on that Senate floor. Just sayin.
Its because of George W. Bush’s adherence to Uniparty political correctness after 9/11 that this NSA program of data mining came into being.
The notion of profiling real people at airports, borders etc. etc. is unacceptable to the powers that be. They adopt a “prevention” strategy which means using communications as a predictor of possible future action.
School shootings have led to a politically correct ‘prevention’ strategy as well.
School students communications are monitored and any “weapons” seized like kitchen knives, pocket knives, nail clippers, words spoken become grounds for discipline because they indicate violence.
This “prevention” program ignores more obvious solutions like armed teachers, staff, guards etc. on school grounds.
Drudge headline says Rand won the contest and the spying on American citizens is finished.
or something like that
looks like Rand (who we here gave up on due to his questionable defense and foreign policy commitment, or whatever, so he is not our candidate...but gotta give credit where credit is due?) it looks like Rand has scored a BIG victory today!
Kudos to Rand Paul for forcing changes to the Un-Patriot Act, which spies on American citizens. Hopefully, the NSA snooping stops tonight and the bill doesn’t pass.
Hang on. Someone at the door. I'll be right back.
I sure can! Realizing that Rand Paul is not the favorite of this conservative forum, he’s a pretty sharp guy and has the advantage of drawing from his dad’s political experience. There is logic in his approach of appealing to a diverse coalition of voters who are very concerned about the spying issue and others, who will see Paul as one who stands up for principles they believe strongly in, whether they are nominally R, D, or I.
If there is a near term invasion of the USA, we can blame it on some quickly discovered anti-muslim video the result of which was to stir the pot..... You cannot tell what citizens and friendly international invaders will do when verbal objections are vaulted towards our enemies.
Yeah, Rand Paul is fighting for our freedom to not have our telephone records looked at via a warrant if we happen to be involved in terrorist activity. What a hero that guy is.
Thanks, I forgot what time the U.S. Senate was on. They’re still talking about the issue.
He’s not saying the govt can’t get a warrant to look at an individual’s phone records and neither am I. What they have no business doing is collecting the phone records of every person in the United States on a daily basis. If the NSA thinks you are a terror threat they can go to a judge just like the cops and get a warrant to tap your phone. Its easy and takes about an hour. This secret FISC court is total BS. Ask yourself why everything is now a secret? secret courts, secret trade bill, secret everything. Its completely unconstitutional.
.... I dunno .... With this current administrations past record and considering who the prez is connected to ..... I can’t help but think that this thing is a setup. A pretext for a coming event with the then powerful ability to play the ultimate Blame Game like it has never been played before that may well determine the outcome of the next federal election.
Which they do, since none of your records can even be looked at except by a warrant.
This secret FISC court is total BS.
No it's not, it's common sense if you're dealing with a terrorist organization. Warrants are given but you are not made aware of them right away for the same reason that was already the law when dealing with organized crime-- because it doesn't help to alert the organization that they are being investigated.
.... Then there is all the activity with the Jade Helm operations .... Is America being played like a fiddle?
.... Call me concerned!!
He hasn’t forced changes to anything. Provisions of the act expired. Now the question is what will the senate do next?
For the record, Jim Sensenbrenner (who was the original author of the Patriot Act) has slammed the O admin for their extensive over reach. The 2nd circuit has also declared the bulk metadata collection unconstituional (not that the DiC pays any attention tocourt rulings he doesn’t like).
Sensenbrenner was on Levin’s show the other day talking about his efforts to reform the act so that it can get back to the original intentions (which by the way were about listening to foreign terror suspects or known terrorists who were making calls into the US)
Oh goody another Paulinista chimes in
