From Gellar to Bush to Duggar Exclusive, Megyn Kelly Enjoying a Good Month

Megyn Kelly is having a very good month.

And we’re not talking from a ratings perspective, either.

Comparing Kelly to her competition at 9:00 PM is now a pointless exercise. The May numbers show her beating CNN’s taped programming (Bourdain, Rowe, etc.) and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow many nights by a 3-to-1 ratio or more. It’s actually been that way for some time and Kelly’s dominance appears to only be getting stronger. All of that said, what this column will focus on is all the headlines/buzz the program is generating long after the 44-year-old Albany Law grad signs off at 10:00 PM ET.

The past month has seen Kelly first accomplish what many try and often fail to do on a daily basis in cable news: own a distinct voice on a controversial issue without hurting one’s brand. It’s a tough trick to pull off. By being distinctive, you’re therefore being unique. By being unique, it invariably means you’re in the minority and therefore swimming against common sentiment on a particular topic.

And that’s the wire Kelly negotiated upon–without ambiguity–supporting Pamela Geller‘s First Amendment right to free speech during the organizer’s patently-reckless Draw Mohammad contest on May 5th. Obviously, the “patently-reckless” characterization illustrates which camp I fell into on the matter (free speech is one thing, purposely provoking violence through it is quite another). But disagreement doesn’t mean not listening to what the other side has to say, and Kelly taking on many of her on-air brethren at her own network (particularly Bill O’Reilly) while making her case (“We don’t compromise our values”) with genuine passion and candor became Must-See-TV.

Bimbo? Kelly’s the smartest interviewer on TV, one of the few who know how to listen to an answer, and ask a follow up question that pokes holes in it, instead of just accepting any answer given. She could be my lawyer anytime.

His problem is that he’s way too predictable and, for me, just boring.

Yep. You always know what Hannity will say on any issue because it's what Rush said 20 years ago.

Hannity and Colmes was the better show.

I agree, Megan Kelley is very good. Hannity on the radio is unlistenable (is unlistenable a word?).

What’s wrong with Hannity? He’s a dedicated conservative on most issues. I’m not saying he’s 100% but he’s definitely in the top 1% as far as media personalities go.

All true, but Hannity is also a serial repeater - same things over and over - it just gets boring with the entire hour political bashing set on the repeat button.

But some things need to be repeated. Hillary broke every rule by putting her email on her own server. How many times should that be repeated? How many repeats is too much? Especially when the MSM ignores it.

True, except Hannity's listeners don't need to hear the same stuff over and over - they get it, perhaps the first time. With Hannity, he doesn't even try to match it up - looking at the same thing from a different angle - he's simply a serial repeater. Now, if that works for him, fine. But I require variety and some fun stuff thrown in - so, Bill and Megyn everyday, switch when Hannity comes on.

I understand what you are saying and I don’t have cable and only watch the clips that fox puts on their website so I guess it’s easy for me to talk. Still, I like the guy.

Agreed. Megyn is right most of the time and she is the only one who has given Cruz a fair shake so far.

O.K., I’ll call you sexist. Megyn is obviously intelligent and well educated with a law degree. Being beautiful doesn’t take anything away from that. I can’t think of a guy with their own show that can match her, certainly not BOR or Hannity.

Hannity needs more of this. We all need more of this - truth spoken out loud!!!:

It's at the point that the Fox-girls embarrass me. I feel bad for them and can't look anymore.

Remember Dennis Hastert aggressively went to the pro-corruption side in 1998.

Megan Kelley is so hot I would watch her if she was reading from the Chicago phone book. (Yes I know that some people don’t even know what a damn phone book looked like)
