In comments made to veteran Portuguese-Israeli journalist Henrique Cymerman Thursday, Francis was quoted as saying that "anyone who does not recognize the Jewish people and the State of Israel -- and their right to exist -- is guilty of anti-Semitism."
Francis was also said to have backtracked on statements he was reportedly heard making earlier this month designating the visiting Abbas "a bit an angel of peace."
The pope recalled telling Abbas in Italian that he hopes the Palestinian chief might one day become an angel of peace in the future, according to Cymerman -- although ostensibly he has not yet reached that level.
The comments were sent by the Pope in writing to Cymerman along with Argentine Rabbi Abraham Skorka, one of Francis's close interfaith colleagues, after the duo approached him following his meeting with Abbas, Channel 2 reported.
In an email we got from Pope Francis:"Whoever does not recognize the Jewish People and the State of Israel falls in antisemitism"
..."It is regrettable that Mahmoud Abbas uses international forums to attack Israel and refrains from returning to negotiations which is the right way to implement a political vision and a solution of peace," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon.

Jogging the jog.
Hmm. First recognize the “State of Palestine”, which by definition stipulates a divided Jerusalem with the Arab “half” as its capital; and then insist that Israel is a Jewish state, which stipulates a 100% Jewish Jerusalem as its capital. Ye cannot serve two masters, and a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.
But recognizing Palestine as a state, is not anti-Semetic?
and committing or supporting terror.
To recognize a Palestinian state is to not recognize Israel.
To declare man made global warning is to assume mans power over God
To preach Communism is to pander to slavery
what say ye popester
Just another cog in the machine of the false peace that is coming.
A Jewish state living side by side with a Palestinian state, in “peace and security” - now just need a political leader to confirm such a deal for about, oh, 7 lunar years, or 2,520 days.
Just imagine if world “leaders” spoke about “peace and security”:
1 Thessalonians 5:1-4 English Standard Version (ESV)
The Day of the Lord
5 Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers,[a] you have no need to have anything written to you. 2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, There is -—peace and security-—, then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.

The Vatican didn’t recognize Israel until 1993, after Israel’s “leader” of the time committed to Israel’s own destruction.
Oh, they can be a state if they want...
Somewhere else!
Yet, recognizing America as American is a hate crime eh?
Speaking as a Catholic, this Pope is an embarrassment. He needs to get off the stage.
Give him a break, he was loaded on communal wine.
/bingo
We’ll see *another* backtrack I’m sure.
This may not fit the political agenda of this newspaper, but the Pope actually said to Abbas: "May you be an angel of peace". -- It was a small, yet meaningful and timely prayer--nothing more and nothing less.
Wait...what?
Just this week Netanyahu was in front of the cameras with a representative from the EU saying he wants to restart peace negotiations with the Palestinians and proposed defining the borders of a Palestinian state with a focus on the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Are you implying that Bibi's anti-semetic?
“Ye cannot serve two masters, and a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
There’s nothing double-minded about it.
1) “First recognize the State of Palestine, which by definition stipulates a divided Jerusalem with the Arab half as its capital;”
Quite simply that does not have to be the case.
2) “and then insist that Israel is a Jewish state, which stipulates a 100% Jewish Jerusalem as its capital.”
First of all, there is no “stipulation” in Israel that Jerusalem must be “100% Jewish”. If that were the case, then there would be no Muslims, Christians, or other non-Jews living there now. Perhaps you mean 100% Israeli? That is, indeed, what Israel says. But that isn’t what Israel insisted on before 1967. Things can change again. Once there was an Israel, then there wasn’t, now there is again. Once there was a Jerusalem which was divided, then it wasn’t, it might be again.
It's that slippery Likud guy, Benjamin Netanyahu.
