Opec under siege as Isil threatens world's oil lifeline
The Telegraph ^ | 05/30/15 | Andrew Critchlow

As the bloc’s 12 oil ministers meet in Vienna, the march of Isil jihadists in the Middle East is putting Iran and Saudi Arabia on a collision course with explosive consequences

Thick black smoke rising from the Baiji oil refinery could be seen as a dirty smudge on the horizon as far away as Baghdad after fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) set fire to the enormous processing plant just over 100 miles north of the capital last week.

The decision to torch the refinery, which once produced around a third of Iraq’s domestic fuel supplies, was made as the insurgents prepared to pull out of Baiji, which they captured last June in a victory that sent shock waves across world oil markets.

A year on from the start of the siege and a shaky alliance of the Middle East’s major Arab powers, with the limited support of the reluctant US government, has failed to contain the expansion of Isil.

It’s probably just me in my own ‘forecast’ but I can see ISIS or ISIL if you want to call it that is quite capable of cutting off the production of oil everywhere they go as a means of forcing the various middle east nations to capitulate to them.

But who in their right mind is going to rebuild their petroleum infrastructure for them? They don’t honor their contracts and businesses as well as governments are loath to operate without at least minimal chances of making a profit off of their ‘investments’.

It is truly disgusting that animals can still threaten the economy with the US awash in gas, oil and coal. 1973 didn’t wake us up. 1993 didn’t wake us up. And the worst attack since Pearl Harbor failed to snap us out of what now amounts to pure stupidity.

We are mere months away from conflagration or I don’t know anything.

Hopefully I don’t know anything.

Like you, I hope I'm wrong.. but currently, it's NOT lookin' good.

Might be time to start thinking about oil.

Might be time to start thinking about oil.

Should have thought about it way back in 1973.

I think civilised countries can make it through a middle eastern supply cut without too much damage, but the middle east will be destroyed. And there would actually be a lot of benefits since a war there would collect jihadis there insteading of infiltrating us, and the Saudis would not have the cash to build mosques all over. I’d put up with inconvenience to see them sent back to the 7th century.

"But who in their right mind is going to rebuild their petroleum infrastructure for them?"

After these murderous jihadi sub-humans have eradicated all infidels who are resident in jihadi-land, they will probably begin the process of limited "guest worker" permits.

They would probably honor business commitments...something the original Nazi's were also known for.

But normal humans are forbidden from doing business with these sub-human toilet scum.

That means Russia will be there quickly. And Chinese money will be the market.

Oh, that money used to be American, but those simple-mined free-traders gave it to 'em.

Apparently the Carter Doctrine is dead.

World's dummest and, here-to-fore weakest POTUS, and the current USA can't even keep up with that:)

Let’s call them DAIISH pronounced Daesh. It’s an insult as well as the Arabic acronym for their official name.

L stands for Levant.

The French, German, British and Dutch interests in the ME during and just after WWI essentially were divvied up among the 4 powers there, roughly falling around their concentrations of work. We know and use at least one company from that time now, with name recognition: Royal Dutch SHELL gasoline.

Notice that this setup predates the nation State of Israel.

Thus, we conclude that EVERYONE WHO USES ISIL instead of ISIS is physically and spiritually DENYING the State of Isreal’s existence.

Likewise, to use Daeish permits the enemy to name himself and so give him power.

thanks for the headsup. I agree that somehow the oil sector is just not going away here and we’re still getting headlines showing that instead of conclusions what we got is “the plot thickens”...
