Last weekend was Memorial Weekend, honoring our fallen soldiers who lost their lives defending our country and our flag. Last weekend a US Forest Ranger came through our campground at Devils Elbow, which is Idaho Panhandle National Forest Land. He told our camp host, Butch & Sharon, they had to take down their US Flag. He refused. I don't know the outcome of his refusal, their is a chance he will loose his job. But he states he will not take down his flag. We also do not know if this ranger was acting on his own, or if this is a decision made by the US Forest Rangers. But whatever, this should NEVER be an issue in the United States of America.
The US Forest Rangers are paid by us, with us tax dollars. Butch and Sharon have every right to fly an American Flag. I am so thankful he did not take it down. They are Heroes in my book. He asked us to wait a week to make this known, so his bosses could contact US Forest Service. So I waited. This was why we painted our faces - a protest. We put flags all around our site. I want to say here it was not American Land & Leisure his bosses, but the US Forest Service. Please pray Butch & Sharon do not loose their jobs.
Here are some addresses if you wish to voice your complaint: US Forest Service, 1400 Independence Ave, SW, Washington DC 20250-1111. Idaho Panhandle Forest Headquarters, 381 Schreiber Way, Coeur d'Alene ID 83815. You can also contact your congressman & senator.
They are not on a camping trip they are campground hosts. Campground host is the job and the Forest Circus is their employer.
Read more carefully...They were the HOSTS at the campground...That means they work for the campground...He could lose his job AT the campground....
Did the ranger offer any reason why? Was it possibly because they hung it on a signpost? They must have cited some ordinance I would think.
Goodness, that picture is probably the norm for every campground we’ve stayed!
I do not know if the camp host will loose his job, because his boss from American Land & Leisure was going to talk to US Forest Service and find out about it. If US forest service says he has to take it down again, he still will not. His job is the Camp Host. Meaning he stays there all season.
He was not on a camping trip, his job was to oversea the camp. I may never know what happened. I was just a camper who was upset they were trying to make him take down his flag.
me too
I did post the pictures, they came through for me, did they not for you? They are in 40, 41, and 45 (45 is just a friend and me)
So here you go bro, call the campground during normal business hours (I just tried and they were closed) and verify her story then get back with me...........If I'm wrong then I will issue you an apology.
Thanks for your anticipated cooperation..
DEVILS ELBOW IDAHO PANHANDLE NATIONAL FORES ID
Phone Number: Information: (208)664-2318
All he said he thought it was because of what happened at 4th of July Pass, see comment 15.
This is not in our campground, actually probably 40 or 50 miles away from the campground. I don’t see what one has to do with the other myself.
The number you posted is:
Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District
Fernan Office
(208) 664-2318
That is the Rangers office. Not the campground. I seriously doubt they have a phone only shortwave or something. There is no electricity, no cell service.
U.S. Forest Service has to farm out campground management now?!? Since when?

You’re a jerk.
“And am I wrong in remembering that the US Forestry Service also has AR-15s, military grade weapons, ammo and SWAT Teams like the Treasury Department, IRS, BATF?”
Carrying a rifle and ammo and knowing how to use them on a battlefield are two completely different matters. Incidentally, the ATF is a state-sponsored terrorist organization. They’re very good at murdering women, children and babies and cowards when confronted by armed men,
I just thought Free Republic would like to know. You go out their and see for yourselves. I do not lie. You can choose to believe or not, I don’t really care. I use to post all the time. I was the contact person for Jarbidge in 2000. But it is people like you who drove me away Hot Tabasco.
I love Jesus, I love my Country & the constitution. But then you don’t know me, and I doubt anyone here remembers, and I know you get kooks, but I am not one of them.
Thank you
The same couple were the campground hosts two years ago as well.
Thank you tigers eye. If you go back up there, will you tell us if they are still there. I have written letters of complaint. I am hoping American Land & Leisure will let me know the outcome, but who knows.
If I were a member of the Parks service, I would have asked them to remove it from that sign post too...
I suspect GrandmaC is over reacting and nothing came of this.............
