Mayor Rahm Emanuel says hes been in touch with the families of the dozen people killed by gunfire this weekend, including a four-year-old girl. He also talked to reporters and police about the more than three dozen people wounded as well, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
Mayor Emanuel attended a luncheon honoring police officers for valor and service above and beyond the call and he acknowledged this was a weekend with far too many shootings and deaths.
He says it will take more than police officers to quell the violence, it will take community action and it will take stronger gun laws.
It is not just about how many police you have, it is about the quantity of guns that are on the street so we actually have gun laws that back up the men and women we just recognized, Emanuel said.
But that requires action from Springfield where lawmakers are embroiled in a budget standoff.
The simple fact that criminals, by definition, do NOT obey laws, seems to have escaped this genius.
“dozen people killed by gunfire”
They were killed by the catch-and-release policies of broken courts, and politicians who fail to do their duty and protect the public, and failing that, refuse to let the people exercise their own God-given right to defend themselves. Rahm and his ilk are naught but beetles crawling atop a dunghill.
Well, they didn’t have guns...
And we all know that there is only Gun Violence...
