Waco police took issue with online conspiracy theories regarding Sunday's shooting at a Twin Peaks restaurant, with a spokesman saying Thursday the department "can't wait" to show the public "what truly happened."
Police have said after a disturbance in the parking lot Sunday, a fight began in the restaurant's bathroom that quickly escalated into an armed brawl and shootout that left nine motorcycle gang members dead and another 18 injured.
According to Waco police, the deadly altercation began after one gang of bikers showed up uninvited to a planned meeting of other motorcycle groups at the restaurant.
"You will eventually see what happened at Twin Peaks," said Waco police spokesman Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton in a news conference Thursday at 5:30 p.m. "I've seen it... It was horrible."
Sgt. Swanton said video of the fight and fatal shooting won't be available to the media or public until the McLennan County District Attorney's Office decides to release it, and that that time may not come until the investigation is much further along.
Swanton said there is currently no time frame on when the investigation may be complete, explaining that the nine men killed Sunday were more homicides than his department investigated in all of 2014. He also cited the complicated nature of the crime scene, which stretches from the interior of the restaurant to well into the parking lot.
More than 300 weapons have been recovered from Twin Peaks and the parking lot. Many were hidden throughout the restaurant, though police have not specified whether the weapons were placed there before the shooting or hidden by suspects as police responded to the chaotic scene.
Swanton specifically addressed those who have claimed online that police instigated the violence Sunday.
"Those who were involved know law enforcement did absolutely nothing to start this," Swanton said. He later said "a criminal element at Twin Peaks" started it.
Earlier this week, officials said there were 18 local police officers as well as four DPS troopers in place at the restaurant prior to a motorcycle group's event on Sunday because they were aware of the potential for violence.
Right on! Criminal gang members are being bullied and what are these phony jack-booted conservatives willing to about it? Nothing! Take a stand! Stop the bullying of drug dealers and gang members NOW!
Shades of Hillary demanding that her emails be made public.
There is footage in the second "waco seige" movie (by some of the people that made the Oscar nominated one) of the lawmen kicking the crap out of the news crew that had filmed it (they were invited to be there in the first place). I don't know if the assault was over refusal to surrender the tape or some other compliance.
The news crew that videoed the officers' assault gave clear release to the filmmakers but had forgotten that was among the footage.
They were claiming hundreds of guns on the first day. That number sounds like an extreme exaggeration now.
Right as Texas legislature was debating whether to permit open carry (as other states already do).
This is perfect. Please do keep your arrogant meaningless horseclinton coming.
Remember who these mindless FR thugs are, folks.
They’re the ones who are going to be most eager to be the administration’s community organizers to “keep the peace”.
As far as the tactic goes, active shooter implies an urgency to get into the scene and engage a person(s) shooting innocents.
Several weapons at the ready.
Meanwhile at the airports, while TSA is frisking passengers on airplanes for shaving kits and nail clippers, the passengers in first class get steak knives.
Guess where the 9-11 hijackers were seated?
Wonder if there was any drone camera coverage.
So if the prosecutors choose not to present the video footage, the defendants (or the families of the shot bikers) cannot have access?
The argument to not releasing the video (at this time) is that it would taint the juror pool, not that it would give the defense team(s) unfair advantage.
Apparently they don't believe that taints or biases jurors.
your arrogant willingness to believe everything you read on ABCCBSCNNNBC/AP.
I don't use ANY of those for My sources.
The only thing I use any of the alphabet networks for is to watch Racing.
It's good to know that you enjoy sitting in your .gov cubicle all day THINKING you know EVERYTHING about EVERYBODY.
What a pathetic life you have. Seek Professional Help, Please. Maybe if you are nice to the Doctor you'll get some candy.
Germany had laws against the Jews. What the government did was not “illegal”.
The Stonewall riots (a gay drama riot over the closure of a mob run speakeasy) have now been celebrated by the gay president.
This wasn’t even a riot. Were there 150 people piling on one another? Alternatively reports say it began as a scuffle in the parking lot over a space or in the bathroom over some matter. That’s a wide stance. Did the participants in one rumble text to the others to join in the fray?
Some reports say that many bikers sought to get safely out of the area. It sounds like the bystanders and staff were able to take enough time to get to safe refuge in the kitchen and meat freezer.
Dangerous stuff! I once listened to G. Gordon Liddy describe how a sharpened #2 pencil could be used as a weapon. Maybe those were likewise included in the weapons count.
The biker grapevine is claiming that no pistol brass was found at the scene.
The guards at Kent State opened fire in response to what they believed (and may have been) enemy fire from the "peace" protesters.
Trust me.
Radio chatter can be an odd thing. The day of the Ft. Hood shooting, I listened in from my office. They were tracking another person they believed to also be involved. Had him trapped, didn't sound like he was giving up, etc.
In Colorado and at other shooting scenes, sometimes they hear their own fire and think the crime is still in progress.
Frankly they may not always know what they are looking at or hearing. They take caution to not wind up in the middle of something still in progress.
Haven’t been paying him any attention.
For all I know, he’s desperately humping my leg, somewhere, right now.
Everybody and their dog records everything that happens, 24/7, these days.
Where are all those smartphone videos?
Hundreds of bikers, who know knows how many other shoppers wandering around and there’s...nothing?
