Fox News, which is hosting the first Republican debate of the 2016 campaign, will require participants to place in the top 10 in an average of the five most recent national polls in the run-up to the event, according to details obtained by The Washington Post Thursday.
The standard will winnow what is expected to be a field of 16 or more GOP presidential candidates by the Aug. 6 event in Cleveland.
Determining which contenders will get to participate in the official forums sanctioned by the Republican National Committee has been a thorny challenge for the cable news network and party officials. No GOP primary debate has ever featured more than 10 candidates.
The cable news channel plans to provide additional coverage and air time on Aug. 6 to the candidates who do not place in the top 10, according to a release obtained first by The Post.

I tend to agree with that.
That does not include other freaks that will jump in.
Who will be the Chinese candidate?
Who will be the Muslim candidate?
Who will be the Gay candidate?
There are still many GOP “Big Tent” candidates yet to join the freak show.
Way too many participants. Should be cut even more. Limiting the number to five would be fine.
Put Cruz on stage with just one of the others...let him knock em down, and then bring up the next guy...once he’s been knocked out, bring up another. Continue until Cruz has effectively wiped the floor with all of them!
You’re not the only one.
How about these odds.
Nominate another RINO and the GOP will lose AGAIN in 2016.
Winning the debate is not enough. Alan Keyes decidedly won every debate he participated in, the excluded him from the debate, I think in Atlanta memory fails, where they arrested him and hauled him away in handcuffs.
“N - 1” ...
Oh, I have no doubt that Prince Riebus and his flying monkeys will slop out every filthy trick in the GOPe book to get the Dauphin to the magic 10%
Break it into 5 divisions.

Ted Cruz
Put each candidate into their strength group. Let them debate. The winner of each group face off against Ted Cruz.
There’s your field.
Let’s agree on how we vote off wannabes off the island.
1) One must file petitions for the Feb 20 SC primary by the first week of December. Only the candidates with the top 5 number of signatures on petitions should be considered for support. That favors the candidate with strong grassroots support and a strong ground game over the candidate with money for TV ads or name recognition.
2) The day after the NH primary, only candidates in the top 5 in either IA or NH should be considered for SC.
3) The same for all primaries after SC; but escalated. Must have been in the top 5 in 2 out of 3. Then in the top 5 in 3 out of 4.
The grassroots enforcing a vote off the island system in FR and TP and similar groups will encourage the wannabes to consolidate.
(I can enthusiastically support most anyone running except Jeb and Cristie and Lindsay who will be in the top 5 in SC and hopes to be #1 in SC. Our #1 job is to consolidate against Lindsay, who is right about as often as a broken clock.)
If I didn't know any better, I'd think that's been their plan from the get-go...
You can’t have a debate with 16 people. Really you can’t have it with more than 5. But they’re all dog and pony shows anyway.
10 wannabes over 90 minutes, minus 1 minute each for opening and for closing statements, and with 30-45 seconds to ask each editorialized question will result in each wannabe having about 6 minutes total time each, provided the moderators do not slight the lessers by giving the projected nominee(s) more questions.
10 on stage is too many, if they expect the audience to really learn anything. It is time only for screw ups and gotchas and attempts to trip up the wannabes.
Of course, they could revert to ‘single word responses’ and ‘raise your hand if ...’
Would that be the FOX news who pays BOR, Rove, rivers and the midget lawyer?
I will pick and choose for my self.
Pick whomever you want, but who you get to vote for, unless it happens to be the one they chose, will be a different matter.
Since Reagan which candidate that you wanted actually made the ticket?
If voting made any difference they wouldn't let us do it."

What an absolute boatload of Bologna that poll is.
Yeah. What else is new?
That’s not one poll. It’s an average of many polls.
What an absolute boatload of Bologna that poll is.
***********
That maybe true but that is the average of 5 national polls, not a single poll.
The criteria for admission into the debate as being discussed on this thread.
Now the average will change before we get into debate time.
Click the link I provided and you’ll see the results for each poll.
Take care.
